It doesn't matter how much money you spend on SEO every month, because without positive, beneficial results, you are not going to be making any return on your actual investment.
When I was 17, search engine optimization was fairly new to me and no doubt I made several big mistakes which had cost me money down the pipe. One of the biggest and unforgettable mistakes was my severe troubles of determining which SEO project I completed had worked the best.
If you already have a good amount of knowledge in SEO itself, then the following information may not surprise you, but I am sure there are those out there who want to spend money on a SEO campaign, but are not sure how to track its progress along the way. Of course, you can check the rankings in your favourite search engine to see if it improves, but there are other easier ways (for free) you can use to determine and analyse results.
There is no point buying a service, or building links yourself if you don’t know what affect it is having on your website as a whole. Here are a few factors to look out for to see for sure and how to know if your SEO is working..
1) Traffic from search engines
If you have found that your daily views have gone up in your Analytics dashboard, then this may be a clear sign of your SEO campaigns working well for you. Google Analytics will tell you where specifically your traffic is coming from and in general, if it is from Google itself then you can be confident that your SEO is doing you good.
2) Witnessing conversions?
If you are selling a service, or a product on your website and all of a sudden you seem to be attaining new sales every day, then this may be another indicator to tell you that your SEO is paying off.
It doesn't even have to be something you are selling. Even if you witness an increase in your email opt in’s or even more comments/activity, this may be a signal that your SEO is giving you results. Compare the latest results you are getting and analyse it with that of before (before you done the SEO) and check for any significant differences.
There are also more tips and information covered at the following blogs: SEOCopywriting, MarketingProfs, and HigherVisibility on how to tell if your SEO is working well for you. And also remember to keep checking back on our own blog for weekly news and tips on SEO!
3) Using rank trackers?
However, if you have some money to set aside, then you can easily use a keyword rank tracker. These tools are designed to help you know if your SEO is working effectively. The basic way these tools work is by checking your website and its keywords rankings in search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) a few times a day and letting you know of the results.
This way you can always know when you see an increase, and also when you see a decrease in your rankings.
Advantages
Using a rank tracker is probably the easiest way to check your rankings and to check if your SEO is giving you the results you desire. If you are the type of person who would rather just have a tool which does the work for them, then using a rank tracker would be recommended.
If you are a SEO agency or company, then you might be better of using rank trackers to manage all your clients websites. It’s easy, quick and stress free!
Using a rank tracker allows you to track any keyword you wish so the options you have are endless! Would you rather use a rank tracker to determine the positions of 50 keywords, or would you do it manually?
Disadvantages
There are only a very low amount of disadvantages for using a rank tracker. The most obvious one is the fact that you have to pay. However, read on below and you will find out ways to track your keywords for free.
Secondly, not all rank trackers are accurate. Some are, and some aren't. At the end of the day, if you are looking for an important query, it is better to do it manually then leave it to a tool to work on. However, if you have a bunch of keywords you need quick, rough rankings for – then a rank tracker will do the job.
Some rank trackers do not exceed past a certain amount of pages. For example, if you had a keyword ranking on Page 456, the rank tracker will only return with “Not in top 100″. This can be frustrating, especially if you really need the exact page/position of the keyword and website.
