Introducing one of our amazing support workers Josie, she is an inspiration and a wonderful person.

Josie: Community Support Worker

Hi, I'm Josie! I proudly work as a Care Provider with DCIRS Community Care and am passionate about helping people live their best lives. I'm friendly, energetic, organised, and love building positive connections with those around me. My goal is simple: to support, encourage, and empower every person I meet, and hopefully leave a little bit of happiness with them along the way.

I hold a Certificate IV in Community Services (Aged Care) and have spent the past 18 years working in the aged care sector. Throughout my career, I've provided both personal and medical support to a wide range of participants, helping them maintain their independence and achieve their goals. I also hold a Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations), along with current Food Safety, CPR, and First Aid qualifications.

Caring for others has always been a big part of my life. Over the past 30 years, I've been a registered Foster Carer, Family Day Care Provider, and volunteer child carer. These experiences have allowed me to support children of all abilities and backgrounds, helping meet their educational, physical, and emotional needs.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me spending time with family, enjoying a good book, getting creative with craft projects, or learning something new. I look forward to walking alongside participants of all ages on their unique journeys, celebrating achievements, building confidence, and making every day a little brighter.

DCIRS Curveball Chronicles - Quackers faces a compliance investigation 🦆

Following several months of dedicated service as DCIRS's Chief Ducks-in-a-Row Officer (CDRO), management is pleased to report that Quackers O'Duckerty remains employed despite a recent series of events that have raised concerns within the Compliance Department.

During August, Quackers was observed taking his civic responsibilities very seriously when he was discovered completing the Australian Census. His attention to detail was commendable, although there remains some uncertainty surrounding his response to the question regarding species classification. Staff later confirmed that "Professional Duck" is not currently a recognised census category.
The investigation began after evidence emerged suggesting Quackers may have been engaging in gambling activities during business hours.
Further inquiries revealed Quackers had purchased a scratchie and was allegedly attempting to improve his superannuation balance without consulting payroll. The matter was escalated when witnesses reported seeing him studying the ticket with "an unusual level of determination." Fortunately for all concerned, the scratchie was not a winner.

After a thorough review, management concluded that:
• No workplace policies were breached (primarily because nobody anticipated needing a Duck Gambling Procedure).
• Quackers did not profit financially from the activity.
• The incident has highlighted the need for additional responsible gaming education amongst waterfowl employed by DCIRS.

When interviewed regarding the matter, Quackers provided the following statement: "I thought the odds looked pretty good. In hindsight, I should have invested in breadcrumbs."

The organisation is pleased to report that Quackers has accepted responsibility for his actions and has since returned to his normal duties including:
• Conducting random compliance inspections
• Monitoring staff morale
• Maintaining ducks in a row
• Completing government paperwork nobody else wants to do

Quackers has also volunteered to lead DCIRS's upcoming Census Awareness Campaign, noting that "Every duck counts."

We thank Quackers for his ongoing service to the organisation and look forward to seeing where his career takes him next, preferably somewhere that doesn't involve instant lottery products.

Hello, and welcome to DCIRS Community Care.

I founded DCIRS after seeing a genuine need within our local community and believing there was an opportunity to create something special. Having called Donald home for more than 20 years, I wanted to build a service that helps people remain independent in their own homes while also creating meaningful employment opportunities locally and fostering a workplace where people genuinely enjoy coming to work.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to gain experience across aged care and disability services and have also worked as an enrolled nurse within our local health services. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the importance of compassionate, person-centred care and have kept me closely connected to the people and communities we serve.

What I am most proud of, however, is not just the organisation we've built, but the incredible people who make it what it is. I feel very lucky to work alongside such a caring, dedicated, and hardworking team. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine commitment to improving the lives of others are what make DCIRS such a special place. Every day, they remind me why we started this journey in the first place.

At DCIRS, we believe that care is about more than providing a service. It's about building relationships, supporting independence, sharing a laugh when it's needed, and helping people feel valued, respected, and connected to their community.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my two adult children, family and friends, and playing guitar and singing. Whether my audience is enthusiastic or simply being polite, I'll happily take either!

Thank you to everyone who has supported DCIRS along the way, including our participants, families, staff, and community. I am incredibly grateful for the trust you place in us and excited about what the future holds as we continue to grow, connect, and make a positive difference together.

DCIRS Chronicles - Staff Voices Introduction

Every organisation has a story.
But no organisation is built by one person. It is built by the people who choose to care.

The people who listen.
The people who encourage.
The people who show up.
The people who quietly make a difference long after they have gone home.

Over the coming weeks, we would like to introduce you to some of the people behind DCIRS.

The support workers.
The administration team.
The people whose kindness, patience and compassion help bring our values to life each day.

Every person has their own reason for choosing this work. Every person has their own story. But many share something in common.

A belief that people matter.
A belief that connection matters.
And a belief that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

These stories are not about recognition. They are about appreciation. Because behind every participant goal achieved, every moment of reassurance and every meaningful connection, there are people choosing to make a difference.

💜 Can you help? Independent Support Worker Wanted - Horsham

We have been approached by a Support Coordinator who is seeking an independent support worker for a participant in the Horsham area.

This opportunity is not affiliated with DCIRS Community Care. We are simply assisting to spread the word in the hope of helping the participant find the right support.

The participant is looking for a friendly, reliable and encouraging support worker for approximately 10 hours per week.

The role would involve:
✨ Social support and companionship
✨ Going for drives and getting out into the community
✨ Building confidence and motivation
✨ Supporting the participant to work towards personal goals

A female support worker would be preferred, however there are no specific age requirements.
