This weekend we have been training our latest group of new members. Equipment and Safety on Saturday and Bushfire Tactics today. In two weeks they will do pumping and practice and will complete their Firefighter Minimum Skills. One table today of 4 with an average age of 20 and a table of 5 with an average age of 56. It is great to have such a mix.

We helped a resident with a permitted burn today as it was too large for her to do by herself and she was very nervous of fire. At the burn one of our newer recruits completed her induction with the observation checklist. Well done Sue.

Doonan had a firecall late afternoon on Saturday. The000 caller said that there was a lot of smoke in the area and it looked like the smoke was coming from the national park. Doonan 51 and 52 responded and followed a plume of smoke to a residential address. Upon arrival there was a large stack fire that the owners did not have a permit for burning with a lot of smoke. Any fire less than 2 metres in any direction does not require a permit larger fires require a permit from the local Fire warden. Permits are free and just need a few details and for the land owner to notify their neighbours that they intend to apply for a permit.
Due to the size of the fire and the fact that it was not permitted the fire was extinguished Doonan 51 and the owner was told of the requirements.

🔥 Rural Fire Service Week – Honouring Our Local Heroes 🔥

This week, we proudly celebrate RFS Week
27-2 August it is a time to recognise the incredible dedication, courage, and community spirit of our RFS volunteers.

These everyday legends give their time, skills, and heart to protect lives, property, and the environment often without thanks or fanfare. Whether it’s battling bushfires, assisting during floods, or supporting community events, they’re always ready to serve.

👨‍🚒 Thank you to every volunteer for standing strong when it matters most!

Our Crews will be onsite to assist Noosa Council with this Burn

🔥 Planned Burn | Monday, 23 June 🔥
Our crews are aiming to conduct a 36-hectare planned burn within Weyba Nature Refuge, Doonan, as part of our 2025 prescribed burn program.

This burn will help reduce the intensity of any potential wildfires and create favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

📍 Crews will be onsite from 9:00am. The burn is expected to run for around 8 hours and will continue until the area is deemed safe.
⚠️ A smoke hazard alert will be issued by QFES. This operation will include an aerial component as part of a Fire Air Traffic Management (FATM) trial.
🌧️ Please note: Due to strict weather condition requirements, this operation may be postponed or cancelled at short notice.
