The Dorrigo Great Escarpment Walk is set to be a new four-day 46km hiking trail through the World Heritage-listed Dorrigo National Park and Bindarri National Park.

The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre will also be upgraded and designs are still being worked on.

'The redevelopment of the Rainforest Centre and construction of a multi-day walk will support more visitors to the region, get more people into nature and create 270 local jobs', said Environment Minister, Penny Sharpe.

The trail promises to showcase stunning Gondwanan rainforest, wander through koala country, and immerse walkers in the cultural heritage of the Gumbaynggirr people.

Construction includes the creation of three new purpose-built camps featuring bunk huts, tent platforms, and communal shelters.

No word yet on when the trail is expected to open.

Congratulations, Pete Singleton!

Monday, 4th May was an important day for the RFS. St. Florian is known as the patron saint of Firefighters, and on his feast day we celebrate the courage, dedication and talents of firefighters everywhere.

In 2026 St Florian’s day was particularly special for Tyringham RFS, as our Senior Deputy Captain Peter Singleton recieved the Commissioner’s Commendation of Service at the awards held in Dubbo on Monday.

Pete joined us in 2017, and as well as being our Senior Deputy Captain, is also our Training officer, and is one of our permit officers. Further to this, Pete has been instrumental in reviving our sister brigade at Ebor, meaning communities to the south also can access our service in their time of need. Pete is also part of the Remote Area Firefighting Team (RAFT), which sees him deployed to rugged and isolated firegrounds where trucks can’t access - a specialised and intensive part of the RFS.

Thanks to his wide and varied commitments, Pete is a wealth of knowledge in the brigade, and is an instrumental part of our ability to attend to emergencies, and in many cases is the first or only one to show up.

Everyone who serves alongside Pete will know this accolade is incredibly well deserved, and Tyringham is proud to stand behind Pete as he receives this very special honour.

Congratulations Pete! We’re glad to have you as part of the brigade.
