Every small business has a story. And behind so many of them, you’ll find a woman who decided to bet on herself - who turned an idea into something real, something tangible, something that provides for her family and creates an impact in her community.
This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating those women. The ones who dream big, work hard, and refuse to let anything - doubt, fear, or outdated expectations - hold them back.
The Women Who Said “Why Not Me?”
For every woman who has ever started a business, there was likely a moment of hesitation.
Maybe it was after years in a corporate job that left her feeling uninspired. Maybe it was in between school drop-offs and bedtime routines, when she realised she wanted to build something that gave her both purpose and flexibility. Or maybe it was out of necessity - turning a passion into an income because the traditional workforce wasn’t built to support her circumstances.
Whatever the spark was, she took it and ran with it.
She learned how to juggle invoices and marketing. How to show up online when she wasn’t sure what to say. How to navigate growth, challenges, and the constant balance between being a business owner, a mother, a partner, a leader, a friend.
And she’s still going.
The Reality of Women in Business
Women-run small businesses are one of the fastest-growing segments in the economy, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Women entrepreneurs often face more barriers - less access to funding, balancing responsibilities at home, and fighting against outdated narratives that say success looks a certain way.
And yet, here we are.
Building, leading, adapting. Creating businesses that reflect our values, our skills, and our ambition. Supporting one another. Changing industries. Shaping the future.
Lifting Each Other as We Rise
If there’s one thing women in business have proven time and time again, it’s that when one of us wins, we all win.
The power of mentorship, collaboration, and community can’t be overstated. Whether it’s sharing advice in a Facebook group, sending a referral to another woman in business, or simply reminding someone that they can do this!
So, today, let’s celebrate.
Let’s celebrate the women who dared to start. The women who are in the middle of figuring it all out. The women who lift others up along the way.
If you’re a woman running a small business, take a moment today to recognise how far you’ve come. You are an example of what’s possible.
Tag a woman in business who inspires you, and let’s celebrate the impact we’re making - together.
