Here is the second program Brio had to privilege to deliver in May this year. An amazingly diverse and enthusiastic group of people - just what we love to work with! We had so much fun together and participants went away with a range of collaborative and active learning strategies to embed into their DRM programs too.

We are officially in Autumn. Not that emergencies work to the seasons much anymore... however, may the slightly cooling weather bring many of us a chance to pause before diving into the next thing.

A fun question for people that work in organisations that are an RTO and use competency based training. If you hold a current unit of competency, you must be given credit transfer. You don't have to be reassessed for the unit... however - an organisation can ask you to complete their version of training or assessment to ensure you have THEIR context - policy, procedures, equipment. Without this, you may not be able to do a role in the organisation.

Does anyone else follow the AIDR "What's new in knowledge" issues? A free monthly blog that collates key research, reports and public interest journalism from across the disaster resilience space. (Trainers and assessors - here is some industry PD right here! This blog is a treasure trove of links to other things to read, or just stick to the summary version.)

Welcome to the January edition of What's New in Knowledge. Led by AIDR Interim Executive Director John Richardson, this monthly blog series collates key research, reports and public interest journalism from across the disaster resilience space.

When you are new to something, it can seem overwhelming how much you have to learn... and when you are an "expert" at something, it is easy to forget what it was like when you didn't know so much or feel so confident. A great trainer/assessor can put themselves back in the shoes of someone who is new. They can focus on the step by step, highlight the "need to knows" and help make it easy for a new person to gain that skill or knowledge. We always need to remember what its like to be new.

What is your best tool/tip/strategy that you love to use for questions in training? One of our faves is the boomerang question! Sometimes all a person or a group needs is a chance to stop and think it through. They may already know part or all of the answer to what they asked. (And we don't need to be their sage on the stage!)
