Meet the Crew!

Firefighter : David Evans

Primary employment: General Assistant for the department of education ( Dungog High School)

Little background on you:

I Was a manager for coles, I followed my wife who was a teacher and was posted to Merriwa central school. There was no Cole’s so I took up the GA role at Merriwa central school. I have 6 children. I joined the Merriwa Fire Brigade in 1989 and have been a Retained Firefighter ever since.

Why did you join?

Because my wife made me, she said if you’re going to set yourself alight, then you should know how to put yourself out. Lol

What is your greatest achievement since joining 282:

Receiving the Bravery award for the floods in April 2015.

What is your favourite thing about Fire and Rescue?

Helping the community, also working with good friends who you sometimes put your life in their hands, knowing they will always be there for you.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Cordage I hate heights ! , one of my very first Rescue jobs was using Cordage on a 80m cliff face. The person hanging from the cliff face we managed to save safely.

What would you say to someone considering applying ?

Helping people in their hour of need with the amazing fire crew all using their skills together for a positive outcome, you can’t get a better job than becoming a Retained Firefighter. So give it a go !
