It's not always as simple as doing laundry, to some, small task like putting a load of laundry on is impossible due to personal struggles and challenges which can impact motivation. Support means meeting people where they're at.

🎱 A VERY SERIOUS EVENT AT THE SIL HOUSE…
It was a very serious event at the SIL house pool table, with Support Worker Dale and Participant Timothy dressed to impress — bow ties, black pants, jackets and crisp white shirts. Clearly, this was not going to be an ordinary game of pool! 😂
The dress code may have been formal, but the banter definitely wasn’t! Plenty of laughs, friendly competition and some very serious concentration around the table. 😜
Timothy was making great progress, lining up his shots, staying focused and giving Dale plenty to think about…
And then came the moment of truth…
🎱 Timothy sank the black ball.
🏆 GAME OVER!
Meanwhile, Dale was still standing there with SEVEN balls on the table! 😂😂
We’re not saying Timothy was keeping score… but someone clearly forgot to tell Dale this was a race!
A great afternoon of laughs, friendly competition and a little bit of bragging rights at the SIL house.

Dementia Week - Young onset dementia

When you hear the word dementia, what age do you picture?

For many people, the answer is someone in their 80s or 90s.

But dementia can affect people under the age of 65.

This is known as young onset dementia.

A person diagnosed in their 40s, 50s or early 60s may still be:

· Working

· Raising a family

· Managing a home

· Exercising

· Maintaining friendships

· Pursuing goals

· Enjoying their community

A diagnosis of dementia doesn't mean that life stops.

It means that the person may need different kinds of support to continue living the life they want.

Young onset dementia can affect memory, thinking, communication, behaviour and the ability to manage everyday activities.

And because the person is younger, changes can sometimes be attributed to stress, depression, relationship difficulties or other circumstances.

That's why awareness matters.

Dementia isn't just an older person's condition.

And people living with young onset dementia deserve to be seen as people first — not their diagnosis.
