To everyone who supported us after the devastating crazy December 2023 Cyclone Jasper weather, I wanted to share a small update on what has grown from that difficult experience. Your support helped my family begin rebuilding our lives and our farm. At the time, we were primarily a Barramundi farm, but when the waters rose, the Barramundi swam away while most of the Redclaw crayfish stayed behind. That experience forced us to rethink the future of the farm and focus on the species that had survived.
Years later, we are still in recovery mode and doing everything we can to rebuild, adapt and keep the farm going. Rather than allowing that adversity to define me, I used it—together with the mistakes, challenges, practical lessons and wisdom gained over many years—to write a book and audiobook that may help other farmers make better-informed decisions.
This book brings together the wisdom I have gained through years of hands-on experience, setbacks, problem-solving and learning what works—and what does not.
It is not a technical farming manual written for established Redclaw farmers. It is for everyday people who may be wondering whether Redclaw could provide a realistic sideline income from a backyard, an aquaponics system, shed, fish tank, dam or small property. The book helps readers honestly evaluate the opportunity—including their land, water, local regulations, market, lifestyle and financial goals—before spending heavily or making costly mistakes.
Although the book draws mostly on my experiences in Australia, it has been written for a global audience interested in sustainable food production, small-scale enterprise and creating an additional income stream. If you have ever contemplated small-scale farming as a possible sideline business, the ebook or audiobook will help you explore the idea and decide whether the opportunity is genuinely right for you.
Purchasing a copy will also support the next chapter of our farm’s recovery and help us turn a very difficult season into something practical that may benefit others around the world.
