Minilya-Lyndon Road & Quobba-Gnaraloo Roads Completed

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce the successful installation and commissioning of new electronic variable message signs along Minilya-Lyndon Road and the Quabba-Gnaraloo Road network.

These upgrades form part of the Shire’s ongoing commitment to improving public safety, traveler communication, and response capability across our vast road network.

💡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄?
The newly installed signs allow the Shire to:

𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆
Staff can now open, close, or restrict roads remotely from the office in real time, allowing immediate response to weather events, flooding, or maintenance activities.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝘂𝗽-𝘁𝗼-𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀
Visitors, pastoral stations, tourism operators, and emergency services all benefit from faster, clearer communication.

These road networks are subject to rapid changes, and timely information can prevent vehicles from being stranded or entering unsafe areas.

Weather conditions in the Gascoyne region can change quickly, and road surfaces on unsealed routes can deteriorate in a matter of hours.

The ability to instantly update road status:
- reduces risks for travellers
- improves compliance with closures
- supports emergency response
- reduces damage to vulnerable roads after rain events

This upgrade strengthens the Shire’s resilience and enhances communication with the many road users who depend on safe access to the Quobba and Gnaraloo coast, pastoral properties, and remote tourism sites.
