Can I share a testimonial? It’s a long one, but one I was so delighted to receive from Wella Company.

Received by , their Senior Marketing Manager:

“A very big thank you from us for your outstanding involvement in our Red Connected events held across six consecutive weeks throughout February and March. Your commitment, energy, and enthusiasm were truly appreciated—not just by our team, but by all our Wella customers who had the privilege of experiencing your presence.

Your keynote presentation, The Connect Effect — Trust, Tribe, Thrive, had an amazing impact. The way you demonstrated how salon owners can strengthen team harmony, sharpen service rhythms, and foster those unmistakable “this is who we are” moments resonated deeply with everyone.

These insights are invaluable for nurturing the kind of customer loyalty that keeps people coming back. Not to mention going the extra mile and visiting Wella salons prior to the events.

Thank you once again for generously sharing your time, energy, and expertise. Your involvement made a significant difference, and we are grateful for the way you helped bring our community together.”

I was in awe of the whole Wella Team , and their state managers and sales reps. The Family was inspiring to watch, their creativity, innovation and passion was clear through all elements from product development through to supporting their customers.

We’ve officially entered the era of synthetic trust.

Where faces look familiar.
Voices sound right.
And content feels… believable.

But isn’t.

So the question isn’t “is this real?” anymore.

👉 It’s what makes something feel real?

Because that’s now the edge in leadership, sales and influence.

Not more content.
Not better polish.

More human signal.

Curious — are you seeing this shift in your world yet?

👛Have you heard of Granny Spills?
I’d been half-tuned into the Coachella stream on Instagram — the usual mix of BTS clips and mainstage moments from Sabrina Carpenter and the Biebers.

Then this other account kept popping up. An older woman in sequinned outfits and oversized pink sunglasses.

At first, I was was like hey, girrl... Who is this “Granny”?
And how does she know all these celebrities? She’s cheersing with Sabrina, hugging Bieber, popping up in photos like she’s been on the guest list for decades.

Turns out… she doesn’t exist.

👛“Granny Spills” is an AI influencer. And according to TIME, she’s already pulled in millions of followers, with content created faster than any human team could keep up. (article in comments).

At first, it’s clever. But then your brain does a quiet double-take — if she feels real but isn’t, what else am I taking at face value?

And sure, this is pop culture. But what about the things that actually shape how we think?

Because there is cause for concern. The New York Times recently reported hundreds of AI-generated influencer accounts pushing political messages, designed to look like everyday people and build trust through repetition and familiarity.

That’s the shift we’re underestimating.
The real question isn’t “Is this real?” — it’s what am I trusting… and why?

Trust has always been built through familiar faces, shared language, consistency over time — and now AI can manufacture all three at scale.

Which changes the game. Not just in politics, but in leadership, sales, and teams. Because if anything can look real, then connection becomes the only thing that actually feels real.

And that’s what creates your performance edge.

SO QUESTION FOR YOU:
Are you creating something that could be replicated… or something that can only be felt?

Because one scales.
But the other… sticks, converts, and gets chosen.

How are you thinking about that balance right now?

ChatGPT said to me, “From my side of the screen, humans are wildly inefficient communicators — and that’s exactly why your writing works.”
Haha. Finally some truth from my AI companion.

Because yes, we are a bit infuriating. We’re unpredictable. We don’t move in straight lines. We circle things, pause mid-thought, repeat ourselves and then refine it, change our mind as we’re speaking.

From an optimisation perspective, it’s messy. Slightly chaotic.

✨ But from a connection perspective, that’s actually the magic.

Because when someone says, “hang on… let me put that another way,” we don’t switch off — we lean in. It feels real. Like we’re thinking with them, not being talked at or presented to.

If everything sounds polished, nothing feels personal.

AI can land a point cleanly in one pass. Humans earn trust by revealing the thinking.

So maybe the goal isn’t to sound more polished. Maybe it’s to stay human enough to be felt.

This is why our human connection in all areas of communication is vital.
It’s unpredictable, but it connects.

Accountants need connection too.

Especially in an age of AI.

This week in Perth I had the pleasure of working with an incredible group of accountants at the beautiful Crown Metropol — first with the senior leaders and partners, and then with the broader team.

We spent time exploring how communication, trust and connection become even more important in relationship-driven businesses as technology accelerates around us.

Because there are still things in business that
technology can’t replace,
competitors can’t imitate,
and systems can’t automate.

And that’s how we connect with people.

Their clients.
Their colleagues.
Their teams.

Brilliant conversations, a fantastic group, and a great couple of sessions.

And an added bonus of being in Perth… seeing my sister while I was there 💛

The last time I was in Christchurch was 2012. Have you been there recently?

The city was still recovering from the earthquakes. Parts of the CBD were fenced off and colourful shipping containers had become pop-up shops so life — and business — could keep going while the city rebuilt.

Fourteen years later, walking through Christchurch again is remarkable.

I’m here this week for the Wella Red Connected roadshow and had a chance to wander the city — across the Bridge of Remembrance, through the markets, past striking new buildings and the cathedral that still quietly carries the scars of the past.

Christchurch today feels like one of the newest cities in the world.
Not because it’s young — but because it had to start again.

It made me think about organisations.
Disruption happens everywhere.
Strategies shift. Technology changes the way we work. What once worked no longer quite fits.

The real question isn’t whether things change.
It’s whether we have the capacity to restore.

Do we notice the signals early?
Do we respond?
Do we rebuild something better?

Through the Connect Effect, Thrive is the last key piece that helps relationships not only grow but to be adaptability and repair.

Christchurch did that. They not only restored, but reimagined what the city could become. Thriving organisations do the same.

International Women’s Day

Today I’m finding myself thinking about the many women who influence my life — professionally and personally.

Colleagues, mentors, clients, friends, family.

It’s a little like flavours in a great meal.
Each one different — different strengths, perspectives, experiences and stories.

And somehow it’s that mix that brings the richness.

From boardrooms and big conversations to coffees, messages and everyday moments, these relationships shape how I see the world.

It’s a quiet reminder that when different voices and experiences are part of the conversation, our thinking becomes broader, our decisions wiser and our world a little better.

Today feels like a good day to pause and acknowledge the women who have added flavour to your life too.

Do you ask enough questions?
Or do you jump in with your opinion all the time?

What if you could deepen connection and build trust quickly with a well placed question.
