2026 City of Whittlesea Business Award Finalists – Community Contribution.

It’s an honour to be selected as a finalist in this year’s City of Whittlesea's business awards, community contribution category.

Repurpose It has had a longstanding relationship with the City of Whittlesea municipality through our construction/demolition resource recovery and Food Organics Garden Organics recycling out of our Epping base of operations.

This award selection, however, is indicative of the strong environmental education and stewardship programs facilitated by our education and communications team with the Whittlesea community.

From the Scraps to Soils event, Envirofest, site tours, Community Festivals to the hands-on learning through the Yarra Plenty Regional Library storytimes and the Early Learning Centre and school incursion programs, we are proud to support and bring the Whittlesea community along the circular economy journey with us.

Winners will be announced in the coming months.

ICYMI – In Case You Missed It – Repurpose It on Garden Gurus
What happens to the materials that come from your FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) bins once they’ve been treated, screened, pasteurised, matured and tested?

They end up in award winning gardens like Jamie Durie's at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS)!

We were delighted to showcase the array of materials that our resource recovery facilities process and highlight the importance of our quality control process.

Watch here as Jamie Durie and our own Thomas Fox talk to Garden Guru’s host, Trevor Cochrane, about the positive impact having sustainability at the forefront of MIFGS has on community understanding and engagement.

Trevor catches up with Jamie Durie at MIFGS to explore a show-stopping garden and the future of sustainable landscaping.

Repurpose It is proud to be named an Official Sustainability Sponsor and Industry Partner of the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show

Through this partnership, Repurpose It will help demonstrate how circular economy thinking can transform large-scale events. Bark supplied by Repurpose It will feature across show gardens, showcasing how organic waste diverted from landfill can be transformed into high-quality composts, mulches and soils that nourish plants, landscapes and communities.

Importantly, the sustainability journey continues after the Show. Repurpose It will recover organics, timber waste, and construction and demolition materials used throughout the event, processing them into new materials so they can be reused rather than sent to landfill.

At Repurpose It, we’re proud to work alongside an incredible group of women across our business, from site operations and weighbridge teams to environmental and safety teams.

The resource recovery and construction industries have traditionally been male-dominated, but the women at Repurpose It continue to challenge that norm every day. Their expertise, resilience, leadership and passion help drive innovation, strengthen our culture and advance the circular economy.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women who help keep our operations moving, support our customers and inspire the next generation to see what’s possible in this industry.

We asked some of our team members to tell us:

What does it mean to be a woman in this industry?

We’re proud to celebrate all the women who make Repurpose It better every day.

From story times to site tours, and everything in between.

Since launching the Repurpose It Education page last October, we’ve been thrilled at the take up and expressions of interest sent through to our education team.

Whilst the throughline of our education program remains entrenched in supporting councils, community and individuals about the strength in the Victorian resource recovery processes when engaged with correctly, how we deliver that message across Victoria has varied tremendously.

Whether it’s dressing up as the ‘FOGO Wizard’ for a playgroup story time, showcasing the wonders of FOGO at festivals and pop-up events, or running hands on edible gardening workshops at aged care facilities, the Repurpose It education team pride themselves on working in conjunction with the needs and strategic planning direction of our partners.

If you’re interested in learning more about the services we offer that can support your circular economy community programs, please reach out.
