Repurpose It

Repurpose It We recover resources and give them new life.

17/08/2026

In this episode of Living with Purpose, host Jamie Durie, explores how Repurpose It is helping support Australians experiencing food insecurity by turning Food Organics, Garden Organics (FOGO) into compost that grows fresh produce at FareShare. That produce is then transformed into nutritious meals for people doing it tough across the country.

Filmed inside Australia's largest charity kitchen and productive kitchen gardens, the episode follows the journey from recycled organics to fresh produce, and ultimately to meals on the plates of Australians who need them most. As 1 in 3 Australian households are experiencing food insecurity, it's a powerful example of how the circular economy is delivering environmental and social outcomes at the same time.

2026 City of Whittlesea Business Award Finalists – Community Contribution.

It’s an honour to be selected as a finalist in this year’s City of Whittlesea's business awards, community contribution category.

Repurpose It has had a longstanding relationship with the City of Whittlesea municipality through our construction/demolition resource recovery and Food Organics Garden Organics recycling out of our Epping base of operations.

This award selection, however, is indicative of the strong environmental education and stewardship programs facilitated by our education and communications team with the Whittlesea community.

From the Scraps to Soils event, Envirofest, site tours, Community Festivals to the hands-on learning through the Yarra Plenty Regional Library storytimes and the Early Learning Centre and school incursion programs, we are proud to support and bring the Whittlesea community along the circular economy journey with us.

Winners will be announced in the coming months.

ICYMI – In Case You Missed It – Repurpose It on Garden Gurus
What happens to the materials that come from your FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) bins once they’ve been treated, screened, pasteurised, matured and tested?

They end up in award winning gardens like Jamie Durie's at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS)!

We were delighted to showcase the array of materials that our resource recovery facilities process and highlight the importance of our quality control process.

Watch here as Jamie Durie and our own Thomas Fox talk to Garden Guru’s host, Trevor Cochrane, about the positive impact having sustainability at the forefront of MIFGS has on community understanding and engagement.

Trevor catches up with Jamie Durie at MIFGS to explore a show-stopping garden and the future of sustainable landscaping.
