This week our team had the pleasure of joining in with the local NAIDOC celebrations. What a joyful afternoon and evening it was, filled with activities, music, and food, bringing people together in celebration of community and culture.

This year's NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates five decades of honouring and elevating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, achievements and resilience. It recognises the enduring strength of First Nations peoples and the continued momentum of community leadership, cultural pride and self-determination.

Thank you to the Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation team for organising and everyone who helped create such a welcoming and uplifting event. Proud of our community for celebrating First Nations culture together on Kepa Kurl Wudjari boodja.

WELCOME CAMI

We are delighted to welcome Cami as a Shop & Gallery Attendant.

From Chile, Cami has spent the past several years travelling around the world, exploring different places, cultures, and communities.

"I arrived in Esperance for the second time in January and this time I've had the opportunity to stay for a longer period. Because of that, I decided to volunteer at the Cannery Arts Centre."

"Art has always been something I love and I wanted to be a part of a creative space where I could connect with people who share the same passion and interests. Since joining, I have found a wonderful team and am very excited to work with them, continue learning from their experience and further connect with the Esperance community."

Six Kepa Kurl Esperance locals were interviewed by Whiskey & Boots about their mothers - their beauty, messiness, strength, vulnerability, and love.

This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the recorded interviews will be performed verbatim by the performers - exactly as they were told in the interviews - and will be accompanied by brilliantly composed live music.

NOW OPEN | AUSTRALIA WIDE NINE

Australia Wide Nine is an initiative of Ozquilt Network Inc. whose mission is to raise the status and profile of art quilters, art quilts, and art quilt making in Australia.

The exhibition demonstrates the scope and variety of stitched and layered textiles, from cotton and silk to paper and cardboard and even shoelaces with techniques ranging from hand and machine stitching, to digital printing, needle felting, gelatine printing, plant-dyeing, collage, and painting.

Did you know the Cannery Arts Centre is a registered charity? Donations are tax deductible, and every contribution helps us continue bringing arts and culture to our community.

Your donation helps us:
• Present free exhibitions for the public
• Employ local artists and arts workers
• Deliver workshops and creative programs
• Support The SHOP, showcasing and selling work by local artists
• Produce community events that bring people together

In 2025, your support helped us deliver:
• 19,692 participants and visitors
• 16 visual art exhibitions
• 178 arts workshops
• 8 music events-There Goes the Sun, Well Seasoned, Balmy Nights & 5 x Open Mic nights
• 578 artists engaged
• 164 volunteers contributing their time and skills
