Becoming Financially Fit for teens

05/06/2026

Finish Line Friday energy just hit different before a long weekend (if you're in an observing state).

If you’re still powering through today, you’re basically sprinting the last stretch before the glorious “out of office” moment.

Close the tabs. Wrap the loose ends. Send the “we’ll pick this up next week” emails.

Whether your weekend is full-on plans or full-on doing absolutely nothing (arguably the superior option), you’ve earned the break.

Finish strong. Then switch off properly.

See you on the other side.

Most teenagers just trust their payslip.

They see a number, assume it's right, and move on.

But casual loading, tax withholding, incorrect hours - these things happen. And if you don't know what you're looking at, you won't know to question it.

Something is landing very soon that teaches every Australian teen exactly how to read their payslip - line by line - and know for certain they are getting paid correctly.

Coming next week. Watch this space. đź‘€

EOFY survival mode: activated.

Stacey’s not pretending this season is all calm planners and green smoothies. It’s busy. It’s messy. It’s “why is everything due at once” energy.

So here’s what’s actually getting her through it:

First up, freezer meals. Not gourmet, not Instagram-worthy… just microwave-ready lifesavers. Yes, home cooked is better, but when Xero crashes and you’re working late, an 8-minute dinner is a win. Kids approve too, so that’s a bonus.

Second, non-negotiable me time. Because if it’s not scheduled, it doesn’t happen. The goal? 15 swims in June. Half the month. Mermaid energy only (questionable technique, strong commitment).

Third, survival snacks. Chocolate is absolutely included. No further comment.

And finally, hydration backup. Gatorade on standby for when water gets forgotten in the EOFY chaos and you realise you’ve been living on caffeine and adrenaline.

EOFY is not about perfection. It’s about getting through it with your sanity (mostly) intact.

Most teenagers get their first payslip and just... trust it.

They have no idea what casual loading is, whether their hours have been calculated correctly, or if the right amount of tax has been withheld.

And honestly? That's not their fault. Nobody teaches them what to look for.

Your payslip can absolutely be wrong. Underpayment is more common than people realise and if you don't know what you're looking at, you won't know to question it.

Something is coming very soon for every Australian teen who just started their first job. And for the parents trying to help them figure it out.

A 4-day work week… sounds like a dream, right?

Some Aussie companies have actually tested it, and the results might surprise you.

We’re sharing this read for any business owners curious about productivity, staff wellbeing, and whether “less days at work” can actually mean better output (not just longer weekends).

Worth a look if you’re thinking about how work might evolve in your business.

https://insidesmallbusiness.com.au/people-hr/fifteen-aussie-companies-adopted-a-four-day-work-week-heres-how-it-went?_sc=NjA3NzUxMSM4NDYyMg%3D%3D&utm_campaign=ISB-NB-2026-05-22&utm_medium=email&utm_source=brevo

What do you think, would it work in your industry?

All but one of the companies researchers studied decided to continue with a four-day work week. And none reported a loss of productivity.

EOFY prep is basically a sport at this point.

And one of Stacey’s biggest productivity tips heading into the busy season is simple but powerful:

Look at your diary two weeks at a time. Not the whole month, not just tomorrow… two weeks. Anything more becomes overwhelming, anything less and you’re not prepared enough.

And the golden rule? EVERYTHING goes in the diary. If it’s not there, it doesn’t exist. It is the world.

Client work, follow-ups, BAS deadlines, school runs, breathing time… all of it. Because “I’ll remember that” is not a strategy (it’s a trap).

Small business owners don’t need more hours in the day. We need better visibility of the ones we’ve already got.

EOFY is coming fast… your diary should be your best employee right now.

EOFY isn’t the time to cross your fingers and hope your numbers magically sort themselves out.

If your receipts are still living in your glovebox, your bookkeeping is “somewhere on your to-do list”, and reconciling your accounts feels like a problem for future-you... this is your sign to make a move.

Better business results don’t come from luck. They come from cleaning up the chaos, getting clear on your numbers, and making the changes that actually set you up for a stronger new financial year.

Before 30 June rolls around, ask yourself:
Are your books up to date?
Have you chased up outstanding invoices?
Are your expenses coded correctly?
Do you actually know where your business stands?

A little action now can save a whole lot of EOFY panic later.

If you want to go and do hours of research to ensure you get tax time right as a small business owner, the ATO. has put together a Tax Time toolkit for you.

But here's the thing....

Where is your time best spent??

6-10 hours reading all the information (and I mean all of it) and possibly still being unsure and then possibly getting it wrong?

Or just paying a tax agent to handle it for you?

Information to help small businesses at tax time and all year round.
