Human Resource( HR ) is the latest title for Industrial Relations,Occupational Health & Safety and employment issues. HR is an industry in it's own right with many law firms providing specialist services including Webinars on various topics as there are complex legalities involved. I provide a hands on service often requiring my presence at a work site to assist management, in not only resolving the current issue but adjusting the perspectives held by the workplace participants.

Watching US debate today made me recollect the early struggles 50 odd years ago about a woman’s right make her own decisions about reproductive rights in consultation with her medical adviser.
Watching Harris vs Trump today made me feel ill.
How dare men determine what is good for women, whereas women have no say regarding men’s rights.
Only women should determine what is in their best interests full stop.!

All the media raging about the Pro Build collapse,fails to mention the blight that exists in our industry.
Disciplines and the lack thereof is what causes company failure.
Fixed price is not the culprit as depicted by media,rather it is a failure to guarantee the outcomes are as tendered.
Pricing materials for a bid then ordering when the works programme requires ,is very bad practice.
Similarly,not factoring in wage increases and allowance adjustments.
Principal Contractors paying claims on the issue of an affidavit is another sloppy and lazy practice.
Standard clauses in building contracts refer to the “ Factual Basis for Payment “. Affidavits are not factual evidence and in fifty years I do not recall a subcontractor charged with making a false claim.
Discipline produces great outcomes in sport and personal endeavours so come on you industry figures. Do your job in a disciplined manner !

Despite all the COVID measures by Worksafe for the construction industry some construction companies refuse to abide. Epping site two consecutive days of working in the rain plus no COVID-19 measures. Epping the hot spot. Unreal !

Industrial Laws to be changed yet again. We have a Modern Awards structure in place yet wage thieves say in defence of their actions that Awards are hard to interpret. Excuse me but are they literate?
The real issue is the same old practice of weakening protections for workers and handing all the power over workplace issues to the employers. Media will not treat this matter objectively as the media owners are employers too.

Policies and Procedures exist for very good and sound Corporate Governance. A Victorian Company recently found such to be the case the expensive way in the Federal Court.
$ 5 .3 million dollars in damages and fines for adverse action against an employee who contested the matter and won.
Had correct procedures been followed this incident would not have occurred.
I have commented so often on due process but this incident takes the cake. The HR manager actually advised the CEO on the correct course of action,however the advice was ignored and the great myth of management prerogative took precedent. Procedure Rock prevents such mishaps through the disciplines and accountability features!

In the wake of the Federal Budget,much of the comment has centred around stimulus,spending and child care.
I would have thought given the mess the Aged Care sector is in that an allocation of funding to improve the lot of the most vulnerable members of our community along with disabled persons.
While the NDIS is the framework for the latter, the elderly are left to a profit driven regime ( Aged Care Homes) which have no interest in improving service delivery to their inmates.
An independent examination of the total needs of a homes inmates would identify the issues ( Toilet and Bathing issues along with Nutrition and exercise ,liaison with family contacts etc and sometimes just a sit down with a person who is lonely).
In turn a formula for hours applicable overall,based on the numbers of inmates would be evident and lead to a proper assessment of the numbers of carers needed to meet the inmates requirements.
Instead we have a culture of “ Bare Bones “ service delivery with elderly persons neglected through a lack of a systematic approach.
If Workplace Health and Safety was addressed in this manner,such would be viewed as a gross abrogation of responsibility.
