THE PROPOSED STANDARD DEDUCTION OF UP TO $1,000 FOR WORK-RELATED EXPENSES DOES NOT APPLY TO UPCOMING LODGEMENTS FOR TAX TIME 2026.

This proposed change is not yet law and, if passed, is expected to apply from the 2026–27 income year. Follow the pre-existing rules and continue to keep the record keeping requirements to claim deductions for work-related expenses this tax time.

The Government announced a standard deduction up to $1,000 for work-related expenses for eligible taxpayers.
