Today my resignation from marriage celebrancy becomes legal. I am still able to conduct all of the other wonderful celebrations of life rites and passages but not marriage anymore. However I can recommend my friend Vicki Minahan, who conducted a wedding with me a couple of weeks ago. Facebook is misbehaving and won't let me post a photo of us at the moment but I will try again later.

I'm in the process of closing this page. This year's illness has meant that I cannot continue putting myself out there for one and all. I will continue to respond to anyone who asks me for help with, and maybe to conduct, a rite-of-passage ritual.

As a celebrant, one of my favourite ceremonies is the Renewal of Vows. Undertaken by a couple who have already weathered the ups and downs of married life, and who would do it all over again: such is love!

Forcing, threatening or deceiving someone to marry is illegal in Australia, but it happens. In the last financial year the AFP received 91 reports across Australia of forced marriage.

From this week, posters like this will be appearing in Sydney Airport in a bid to get the complex issue of forced marriage on the radar of Australians. The campaign offers pathways of support for people who may be at risk of being trafficked overseas and forced to marriage someone against their will.
