The energy market remains favourable, with forward electricity prices still near four-year lows. This creates a timely opportunity to reassess energy arrangements, particularly where contracts are nearing expiry or usage has changed.

In addition, network tariff changes from 1 July across several regions are prompting a review of whether current tariff structures remain suitable.

While energy rates often receive the most attention, network charges can account for a significant portion of an electricity bill. An unsuitable tariff can erode the savings achieved through effective energy procurement.

If you would like a free review of your current energy arrangements and to take advantage of current market conditions, please reach out to us.

May energy markets remained favourable across Australia, and these supportive conditions have continued into June, creating a strong window of opportunity for businesses reviewing contracts or energy strategy.

This month's key takeaway? Businesses should be paying close attention to two things:

💡 Network tariff changes from 1 July:
Network charges can account for more than 50% of an electricity bill. With tariff changes approaching, we continue to see cases where businesses incur significant unnecessary costs when tariff changes or site load changes are not identified and acted on quickly.

💡 Favourable market conditions:
Forward electricity pricing remains at attractive levels, supported by strong renewable generation, softer demand, and easing gas prices. While current conditions present a compelling opportunity for procurement, the market can shift quickly as winter demand increases and system constraints tighten, particularly during evening peak periods.

Energy markets are being shaped by strong renewable output, alongside global pressures including geopolitical tensions and gas market dynamics. While this is keeping daytime electricity prices low, peak and evening periods remain elevated as the system shifts back to firming generation.

In this update, we cover:
• National Electricity Market trends and recent pricing movements
• State-by-state insights across VIC, NSW, QLD, and SA
• How global gas markets and international events are influencing local electricity prices
• What this means for procurement timing and energy strategy

We hope the year was off to a strong start for your business! Our goal is to keep you informed on Australia’s energy market movements so you can make smarter decisions, manage risk, and capture opportunities.

The energy market continues to change, and February has reinforced a clear trend — strong renewable generation is keeping daytime electricity prices structurally low, while evening and peak periods remain exposed to volatility as the system shifts back to gas and thermal firming generation.

For businesses, this highlights one key priority: a well-managed Energy Procurement Strategy (EPS). With some outer-year pricing firming again, delaying decisions could increase cost exposure.

In this February edition, we cover:
+ Daytime vs evening wholesale price spreads across each state
+ Forward curve movements and Q3/Q4 2026 strip pricing trends
+ Wind variability, thermal maintenance and interconnector performance
+ Gas market conditions influencing electricity pricing
+ Practical load-shifting and peak risk strategies for 2026 renewals
