Chilli experiencing a flowing creek for the first time after some lovely rain over the weekend.
Our dam has gone from under 10% to around 25%, gifting us some valuable water to nurture the vines through next summer.
Hoping for more good rain over the next few weeks.

For the next two months we will closed on Mondays through to Thursday as we focus on completing our pruning.

After the severe frosts of the past two springs, the vines need some extra TLC, and pruning is taking much longer this year.

If you are planning a dedicated Poonawatta visit, and can't make it on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, please call or email in advance and we will do our best to accomodate you.

That's a wrap.

We picked our estate Shiraz vineyards ahead of this weekends rain, the last few days of 'Indian Summer' pushing the fruit to perfect ripeness after a cool and wet March.

Thanks to the frost of last November we picked a fraction of our average volumes.

The 750kgs crushed yesterday will give us two barriques of 2026 vintage Shiraz. Precious stuff indeed.

This week we stepped outside the Eden Valley region for the first time, picking Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills.

Why?

Two reasons; this vineyard near Oakbank was planted from cuttings taken from our 1880 Shiraz vineyard. It is an intriguing project, to make wine from 1880 clones in another region. Close planted, steep slope, east facing, higher rainfall, cooler climate.
And secondly, with our vines heavily impacted by frost, every berry counts.

And of course, we cant pick grapes without my 85 year old mum lending a hand. Over 70 years of grape picking experience, and this was the steepest block she has ever worked in.

And thanks to Cobb's Hill Estate for access to this special little vineyard.
