Patron Saints for Mental Health and Anxiety
In times of mental distress, anxiety, or emotional struggle, Catholics are never alone. The Church offers us powerful intercessors—saints who experienced their own trials and can pray for us before God.
St. Dymphna – Known as the patron saint of those suffering from mental illness, depression, and anxiety. She was a young Irish princess who fled persecution and is now invoked for peace of mind and emotional healing.
St. Benedict Joseph Labre – Lived a life of poverty and wandering, facing rejection and inner suffering. He is a patron for those struggling with mental challenges and homelessness.
St. John of God – After a mental health crisis that led to public ridicule, he underwent conversion and dedicated his life to caring for the sick, including those with mental illnesses.
St. Therese of Lisieux – Though not directly a patron for mental health, she faced severe emotional trials and offers a model of trust and simplicity in God’s love.
Our Lady of Lourdes – Many seek her intercession for physical and mental healing, trusting in her motherly compassion.
If you are struggling with anxiety or emotional pain, remember—seeking help is not a lack of faith. Pray through the intercession of these saints, receive the sacraments, and lean on God’s love that never abandons you.
