Before 2015, streets glowed under warm sodium lights—soft, amber, and familiar.
Today’s white LEDs are brighter and more efficient, but often feel colder.
Now, some cities are turning to warmer-toned LEDs to balance efficiency with atmosphere.

Maybe it’s not just the light we miss—but the feeling it gave the night.

Popular street artist Banksy?
Maybe not, but this is what's fashionable among those of criminal intent. This attire works quite well in day light and at night. In harsh light the face is shadowed by the hood, so anonymity is even more effective.
Go for a walk through any city and you will see people lurking around dressed like this. Now you know why.

How do you think a facial recognition camera fares with this look? It doesn't of course. This is why they are essentially a waste of money.

We have to be more thoughtful in how the Cotton Mills is managed. The existing charm of the place must be maintained and enhanced. The quality of the light at night is an overlooked aspect of the building. We must not assume that soft warm light is somehow inadequate. Eyes adjust to relative darkness. Using bright lights does not make a space safer as it only creates darker shadows.
When leaving a brightly lit studio or get out of a car give your eyes a moment to adjust. Being outside at night will never be as bright as being in a well lit room. Soak in the mysterious charm, imagine you are in a village in Italy. Enjoy the night. But keep alert nevertheless.
The cameras are not monitored, they may deter but this not always so as some people have no sense of future consequences and will do what they want regardless. They have been known to wear hoodies and generic clothing so the cameras are useless even during the day.
Mostly the area is safe with only a very few exceptions. These will not repeat. but be confident that there are people always present in the buildings at night and will come out in response to shouts or personal alarms. This is the safest way to deal with any situation.
