EDGY University of Southern Queensland has been featured by as part of their Education Month showcase.

The Education Gateways Building forms part of the ongoing development of ’s Springfield Campus, providing digitally connected learning environments across education, allied health and nursing, engineering and construction disciplines.

MODE provided Architecture, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture services for the project, delivering a coordinated response across the building, interiors and surrounding campus environment. Designed to accommodate the equivalent of 350 additional full-time tertiary students, EDGY integrates with the existing campus through a link bridge connection to Building A.

Sustainability was embedded throughout the design approach, with EDGY achieving a 5 Star Green Star rating through passive design strategies including orientation, façade shading and natural ventilation.

𝗖𝗤𝗨 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 | 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲
A new electric vehicle maintenance training facility has been completed at Australia's Mackay Oorelea campus, providing purpose-designed spaces for practical training, teaching, industry engagement, vehicle maintenance and new energy technologies.

MODE’s Sunshine Coast team worked with Woollam Constructions to design and deliver the 2,250sqm facility, which includes classrooms, training spaces, conference rooms, offices, student amenities and a double-height workshop.

Efficiency and functionality guided the design. Spaces were planned in coordination with the exposed structure and building services, establishing a clear spatial logic that supports intuitive navigation and the University’s operational requirements. This efficient approach also enabled an additional classroom to be incorporated within the project.

A restrained material palette reflects the practical nature of the facility, while bright colour accents support wayfinding and give the building a distinct identity.

MODE coordinated closely with Woolllam Constructions and the consultant team to resolve the project’s technical requirements. The completed building provides an efficient and adaptable environment for the development of electric vehicle maintenance skills in Central Queensland.

𝗡𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 | 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻
The newly completed Noosa Day Hospital is now open, providing the Sunshine Coast’s first standalone, purpose-built multidisciplinary day hospital and bringing specialist care closer to the local community.

Located within the Noosa Specialist Medical Centre on Hofmann Drive, the single-level facility provides three operating theatres supported by recovery, treatment, consultation and clinical support spaces.

The design is driven by clear operational planning, with clinical flows carefully separated to support infection control and efficient movement. A dedicated Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) follows a one-way workflow from decontamination through sterilisation to sterile storage, supporting safe and efficient clinical operations.

Patient experience is also central to the planning, with the journey from admission through pre-operative care, treatment and staged recovery carefully coordinated to provide clarity and comfort.

The project brought together our Sunshine Coast and Brisbane studios, combining local knowledge and health sector expertise across the design process.

MODE worked closely with Cura Day Hospitals Group, n and the broader consultant team to resolve the complex clinical, technical and operational requirements of the facility. This collaborative approach reflects our 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗 By Design philosophy, bringing people, disciplines and ideas together throughout the design process.

The result is a contemporary day hospital that balances clinical efficiency with a calm and considered patient environment, supporting specialist care closer to home.

A major milestone at , with the first phase of the Northern Bays project now open to passengers and the new boarding gates welcoming their first domestic travellers.

The project forms part of the broader Existing Terminal Refurbishment program, responding to continued passenger growth and the need for additional domestic capacity across the terminal.

With the project continuing through to completion later this year, the Northern Bays will provide additional capacity while supporting the ongoing evolution of Gold Coast Airport and the region it serves.

Located at Northshore Hamilton, brings together architecture, interior design and landscape architecture to create a flexible workplace and community environment for Brisbane’s growing creative and entrepreneurial sector.

The landscape design plays an important role in connecting the building to its riverfront setting, softening the warehouse-inspired architecture and creating an open, welcoming arrival experience. Together with the interior and architectural response, the landscape helps create a cohesive environment that supports connection, collaboration and everyday use.

The Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct continues to progress as a major investment in regional sport, recreation, and community infrastructure. ‍

The updated master plan, endorsed by Toowoomba Region in June 2025, reinforces the vision for a premier multi-sport destination.

The revised plan incorporates improved functionality, updated site planning informed by topography and geology, enhanced road access, and safer off-street parking solutions.

Located in Charlton on Council-owned land adjacent to the Toowoomba Bypass and Toowoomba Connection Road, the precinct is being developed to respond to growing community demand for sporting facilities while supporting the region’s ability to host state and national events.

The precinct will deliver a diverse range of sporting and recreation facilities, amenities, and a district recreation park, while recognising and incorporating cultural and Indigenous landmarks and artefacts within the site.

Delivered through a staged approach over the coming years, the Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct represents a long-term commitment to creating connected spaces for athletes, community members, and visitors.

The Brisbane MODE team are proud to be contributing to the planning and design of this important regional facility alongside our project partner , supporting the creation of a precinct that will grow and adapt alongside the community.

𝗪𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 | 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻
The Werribee Oncology Treatment Centre officially opened in July, marking an important milestone for the Wyndham community and providing the municipality’s first dedicated cancer care centre.

Located within the St Vincent’s Private Hospital campus, the GenesisCare centre provides external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), bringing specialist cancer treatment closer to home for patients and their families.

The 640m² single-storey facility is organised around a linear accelerator bunker and dedicated CT imaging room, supported by patient treatment, observation and consultation spaces, staff amenities and operational areas. The design carefully integrates the new facility within the existing hospital campus while responding to the operational requirements of specialist radiation therapy.

Creating a calm and welcoming environment was central to the design approach. Clerestory windows draw natural light deep into the facility, while timber tones, warm finishes and greenery create a considered, reassuring environment for patients, carers and staff.

Externally, the architecture responds to GenesisCare’s established material language while respecting the character of the broader St Vincent’s Werribee campus. Materiality, form and detailing were carefully resolved to create a cohesive addition to the existing health precinct.

The project reflects a strong collaborative relationship between GenesisCare, the Melbourne MODE team, MostynCopper, St Vincent's Health Australia, Intrec and the broader consultant team.

The refurbishment of Edith Cowan University’s School of Science transforms a traditional cellular office layout into a more open and adaptable environment for teaching, research and collaboration.

The interior design introduces a mix of flexible work settings, from quiet focus areas and shared desks to informal collaboration spaces, allowing postgraduate students and academics to move between different modes of work throughout the day.

Improved visual connections and access to natural light support wellbeing, while integrated meeting points and breakout spaces create opportunities for informal discussion, knowledge sharing and interaction across disciplines.

The result is a more agile and connected academic workplace that responds to the evolving needs of the School of Science and its community.

Delivered by our Perth studio, the project reflects MODE's CONNECTED By Design philosophy, bringing together workplace strategy, interior design and user experience to create a more adaptable and connected environment for teaching, research and collaboration. MODE has appointed Hans Van Wyk as Secure Sector Lead, strengthening our capability across complex government and public infrastructure projects throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Hans brings extensive experience across government, justice, policing, education, health and civic projects, with a career spanning architecture, project management and major project delivery.

MODE’s government portfolio includes The Wave Stage 1, Waikeria Prison Development, CDU Danala Education and Community Precinct, Australian Police Headquarters in Darwin, UniSQ EDGY Building and Western Australia’s largest education PPP.

Hans will work with clients and project teams across our secure-sector portfolio, supporting project delivery while strengthening relationships and opportunities across the government sector.
