** Code Red TIER 1: Statewide activation extended **
Heatwave conditions are forecast to continue across South Australia for the next several days.
The current statewide Code Red Tier 1 response for people sleeping rough has been extended until 9 January 2026.
Please note that depending on forecast weather conditions this activation may be extended.
Please remember - Homeless Connect SA will continue to operate 24/7. They can be contacted on 1800 003 308 by anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness.

CODE RED RESPONSE - STATEWIDE ☀️
Due to ongoing forecasted heatwave conditions, a TIER 1 CODE RED RESPONSE has been activated STATEWIDE from 9am Tuesday 6 January to 5pm Thursday 8 January 2026.
Council has a number of facilities with air-conditioning and water available. Community members are welcome to seek refuge from the heat at these facilities during their operating hours for this week, as outlined below:
• Gawler Administration Centre:
Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm
• Gawler Civic Centre:
Monday to Wednesday: 9am to 5pm, Thursday: 9am to 6pm, Friday: 9am to 5pm, Saturday: 9am to 1pm
• Gawler Public Library:
Monday to Wednesday: 9am to 5pm, Thursday: 10am to 6pm, Friday: 9am to 5pm, Saturday: 9am to 1pm
• Gawler Visitor Information Centre:
Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm, Weekend: 9.30am to 1pm
• Evanston Gardens Library:
Monday: 9am to 12 pm, Tuesday to Wednesday: 2pm to 5pm, Thursday: 10am to 1pm, Friday: 9am to 12pm
• Gawler Sport and Community Centre:
Monday: 9am to 7pm, Tuesday: 9am to 8pm, Wednesday: 9am to 7pm, Thursday: 9am to 8pm, Friday: 9am to 5pm, Weekend: Closed
Homeless Connect SA operates 24/7 and can be contacted on 1800 003 308 by anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness. Community members are welcome to utilise phone services at any of the above Council facilities to contact Homeless Connect SA.
Stay Safe in the Heat:
• Drink plenty of water
• Avoid being outdoors during peak heat (11am-4pm)
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Stay cool with fans or air conditioning
• Check on vulnerable neighbours and loved ones
