Thank you Barwon Coast for inviting team Arranyinha to create and hold space for your closing ceremony.
To gather around fire is something deeply old and deeply sacred.
For First Nations Peoples, fire has always been more than warmth....
It is story, teaching, connection, accountability and renewal.
It reminds us that generational change is not created through words alone, but through relationship, truth-telling and the courage to sit together differently.
It was an honour to share culture, reflection and conversation alongside you all, and to witness people leaning in with openness and respect. These moments matter because they create the conditions for change that is not performative, but relational and lasting.
We thank everyone who showed up with good hearts, willing to listen, learn and walk forward with greater understanding and responsibility.

This week, Team Arranyinha spent time in Gariwerd (Halls Gap) with the SWRV Koorie Education Workers forum. Marsha delivered a special Ikaka Alda (campfire conversation) that spoke to story, journey, cultural strengthening and gifting each participant with a framework on Culturally Grounded Leadership in the In-Between.
It was a powerful time, surrounded by country and its sacred landscape that brought a spirit of safety, healing and renewal.

For Marsha, the mountains brought grounding and a message from home..... a reminder of who she is and where she comes from.

Thank you to Ilona Rose for bringing the strength of our South West Victoria Koorie Education team and inviting us to be part of your staff retreat.

💜✨IWD SPOTLIGHT: MARSHA UPPILL ✨💜

I first met Marsha at a Women’s Circle in Geelong - and I was immediately struck by her strength, wisdom and deep sense of purpose.

A proud Adnyamathanha woman now living on Wadawurrung Country in Djilang, Marsha is the Co-Founder and Director of Arranyinha Pty Ltd - an Aboriginal-owned business grounded in First Nations knowledge, culture and self-determination.

With more than 30 years’ experience across government, community and industry, Marsha works at the strategic level - where decisions are shaped and systems are built. Her approach is simple but powerful: embed a First Nations cultural lens into leadership so that cultural respect isn’t an add-on - it’s the foundation.

She is a storyteller, mentor and systems-changer, committed to creating space for meaningful change - particularly for First Nations women and young leaders.

This International Women’s Day, I celebrate women like Marsha who are reshaping systems for generations to come.

Western Victoria is stronger because of women like her. đź’ś

18 Years on and this still remains one of the most pivotal and historical experiences of our lifetime.
Read Arranyinha Director, Marsha Uppill's first hand account of this moment in time......

"That day, I stood with my feet planted on Kaurna Country, with thousands of people, stolen generations survivors, their families and friends, allies and neighbours, waiting for the word..... SORRY
When it came, it hit like a wave of emotion, that almost knocked me to my knees. Carrying a pain that didn't start with me, that my Mum didn't create, that she had no control over, that she didn't deserve.
That day, it shifted.
It made room for healing.
It made room for dreaming of a new tomorrow.
It made room truth to be told, and for truth to be heard.
Today, I stand with feet planted on Wadawurrung Country.
And I remember that day, and I am grateful for all that has come and will come from that act of reconciliation"

Hey there, what are you up to? What am I up to, you ask?

Well, I’m over here making generational change, working to shift over 230 years of colonial disadvantage that I, & many First Nations peoples, face every day.

In my lifetime so far, I’ve seen history made, both positive & negative decisions & practices across industry, government, & society. Here are just a few:

âś… Positive: A Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody (1991)
❌ Negative: As at 2024/25, a further 600 Aboriginal deaths in custody

âś… Positive: The Apology (2008) to the Stolen Generations
❌ Negative: The Voice to Parliament Referendum, its design, politicisation & outcome.

âś… Positive: Treaty for Victoria.
❌ Negative: “Didn’t we vote no to that?” a question “no voters” have on shortcut to any & everything First Nations.

The list goes on... perhaps I have lost some of you by now?

For those I haven’t, thank you for reading & reflecting with me, because what I’m about to share is deeply meaningful.

The morning of Tuesday, 14 October 2025, 2 Years on from the Referendum, my daughter & I joined many strong First Nations women of all ages, life circumstances, & mobs.

We talked, laughed, dreamed, listened, shared, learned, & spoke truths... continuing our chosen path toward generational healing & change.

We did this. First Nations peoples did this.
Why is that important? because...
WE know what WE need.
WE know what it should look like; &
WE know how to do it with cultural safety, respect, & healing.

The survival & strength in that room were overwhelming.
I found myself sitting, eyes closed, breathing in the sound, scent, spirit, & strength.
It grounded me.

That afternoon, I witnessed history as Treaty was presented to the Victorian Parliament to debate. In all its raw, honest, & visionary form by strong & courageous Traditional Owners, representing the collective First Peoples of Victoria.

Tears started deep within my spirit & rolled down my face.

My daughter beside me, & on our ancestors’ shoulders, we both stood.

She looked at me & asked “Mum, what will tomorrow look like?”

Breath-taken by her, I replied: “You, my darling Daughts, You are what tomorrow looks like.”

Each morning I rise to my Cultural responsibility.
This is why my Blak business is named Arranyinha, my Adnyamathanha Yakarti Mityi, meaning *First Born Woman of my Mother*.

Everything I do is to continue the fight that began before me.
I didn’t choose this fight, I was gifted it.

For me, the "fight" represents challenging and changing systems, policy, & societal bias, responding through cultural strategy, wisdom, education, belonging, & healing.

So, I ask again...What are you up to? Are you with me?
If you’re not sure, what can I, Arranyinha, do to enhance your understanding, knowledge, awareness, & strategy for your relational responsibility & your role in generational healing & change to take flight?

So many brilliant commitments happening across the Barwon region!
