Based on the recent investigations by WorkSafe in to the management and exposure to welding fumes, Scaada have been involved in a regional monitoring program across numerous businesses investigating welding fume exposure. The investigation highlights the risks and the need for adjustments to keep our clients compliant and their staff safe in the workplace.

Welding fumes have been proven to be a carcinogenic and those exposed are at a 43% increased risk of lung cancer compared to those that have never welded. The recent standards amendment mean the exposure is significantly reduced and old extraction systems are no longer viable or relevant. In 2017 the World Health Organisation have grouped welding fumes with such hazardous materials as silica and asbestos.

Over the past year Scaada Environmental and Sustainability have been working closely in the renewable energy sector. Our business has found the alignment in values in this critical area, supporting across all stages of the project including, planning, testing, designing management plans, monitoring and installation of control measures.

Over the past few weeks WorkSafe have been visiting many of our clients and conducting a review of their Asbestos Registers, also known as a Division 5 Audit. At Scaada we prioritise our clients to always keep up to date with their documentation, including their Asbestos Register.

Did you know the register has a life span of no more than 5 years? No - well, it does, and importantly its legislated. If your register is out of date, you could be open to an infringement notice, or a costly fine.
