I’m really proud to be part of the Geraldton Women’s Shed.
Not just as the social media manager… but as the secretary and committee member helping build something pretty special for women in our community.
What started as an idea has grown into a movement of women showing up for each other.
Yes, women learning how to use power tools gets the headlines… but the Women’s Shed is about so much more than that.
It’s about our pillars:
Build – practical skills, confidence and independence
Connect – friendship, belonging and community
Empower – women backing themselves and each other
Create – learning, curiosity and trying something new
It’s women walking into a workshop not knowing anyone… and leaving with new friends.
It’s women who thought they “weren’t handy” building something with their own two hands.
It’s women realising they’re capable of more than they thought.
But right now we’re doing all of this without a permanent home.
So this International Women’s Day I’m putting a call out to the universe (and the Geraldton community):
Do you - or someone you know - have:
• a shed
• a warehouse
• a building sitting empty
• a business with spare space
• the ability to support a community initiative like this
Because what the Geraldton Women’s Shed really needs right now… is a place to call home.
A space where women can learn, connect, create and grow.
If something comes to mind - or you know someone who might be able to help - please reach out.
Sometimes big community impact starts with something simple.
A shed.
Give women a space… and watch what they build.
So many women walk into their first Geraldton Women’s Shed workshop saying things like:
“I can’t do this.”
“I’m not good at this.”
“I don’t understand this.”
But then something powerful happens.
They pick up the tool.
They ask the question.
They give it a go.
And suddenly those sentences end with one small but powerful word…
Yet.
This International Women’s Day we celebrate the courage to try something new, the confidence that grows from learning, and the women who support each other along the way.
Thank you for being a part of our mission 💛
That’s how we shed!
