It’s been a sad day. Genuinely.
I’ve had Dolly blaring, the tears have been flowing, and I found myself watching and rewatching the videos I took when I saw her live … Which then snowballed in to me thinking back on so many memories where, somehow, Dolly was part of the soundtrack.
I didn’t know her personally - obviously 🙄 but isn’t it strange (and equally awesome) how someone you’ve never met can still mean so much to your life?
Her music is attached to so many good times. So many years, many friendships, so much fun.
And she also inspired me too.
Coz it wasn’t just the music.
She was clever. Hilarious. Kind. Generous. Unapologetically herself. A woman who might have been underestimated because of how she looked or sounded. But she was sharp, quick witted and incredibly talented.
She made being feminine feel powerful. She never seemed interested in becoming smaller, quieter or less Dolly to make anyone else comfortable. Yet everyone WAS comfortable in her presence.
I especially love that about her.
So today I’m a little heartbroken.
What a woman. What a legacy. And what a soundtrack she has left us with 💗
