Onya Microsoft!

If you are having trouble reading your Outlook e-mail this morning, it's not your fault... and you are not alone!

If you are an Office 365 user and use Outlook 365, you most likely are having the same issue.

Microsoft are said to have identified the problem and are in the process of fixing it.

You can either 'wait till Microsoft fix it' or roll back the latest update.

The following article has more details:

ATTENTION Microsoft Access users who have Microsoft / Office 365. Due to an issue with the latest version of Microsoft Access rolled out by Microsoft, you may have an existing database that now misbehaves.

Symptoms include:

* unexpected operational crashes
* unexpected Asian characters appearing in numeric fields
* pointing at numbers in debug causes crashes
* debug.printing numeric variables or fields shows question marks

The cause is field data types. The popular DECIMAL data type is essentially currently not supported. Whether in SQL SERVER or MySQL or an Access data file, any field set to DECIMAL should be changed to DOUBLE.

If you are experiencing misbehaviour in your Access database that matches any of the symptoms described above, this may be the cause.

Of course, if problems persist, feel free to contact us.

I hope everyone has a great break over the festive season! Don't let your guard down though, scammers will keep trying... however badly.

Well this is a new approach, but so riddled with extremely obvious 'tells' that make it very clear that this is not legit. Not the least of which is that I got the exact same message from some other identity, word for word 🤣

Great Job SAPOL! This image serves as both a warning of a new scam getting around and a great info-graphic of what kinds of things are indicative of a scam e-mail 😎

A scam email sent to a SA Police inbox was today quickly turned into a warning and learning opportunity for the wider community.
The email, which claimed to be from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (pictured), showed some classic signs of being a scam.
Sergeant Jonathon Newman, the Cybercrime Training and Prevention Supervisor from the SA Police Financial and Cybercrime Investigation Branch, said scammers are always active.
“Unfortunately they will try to trade on the good name of widely known brands – in this case the ACCC – and send out emails indiscriminately in the hope of catching someone who is not paying close attention.
“This can mean both business and personal email addresses can receive emails of this type.”
He noted that some of the key indicators which should raise a recipient’s suspicions were:
• Sender's email address not linked to the ACCC
• Generic salutation
• Threatening language
• Sense of urgency
• Poor spelling
• Suspicious link
• Generic sign-off
In cases such as this, police recommend that you never click on any links in the email, and simply delete it.

NO! The Australian Taxation Office does NOT call people with robotic voices claiming that you have violated whatnot.

They don't do that.

If you get a call from what claims to be the ATO, yet they don't know your name and call you "citizen", it's a clearly recorded message that's computer generated, just hang up and don't give it a second thought!

It's the time of year to be clearly aware that there are plenty of scammers out there trying to trick you because it's tax return time.

Always check the URL.

That's one of the things to do when looking at an e-mail or website to assess if it a scam.

This one is highly deceptive. At first glance it looks legit. However, government websites don't end in .net. They end in .gov.au.

The site has a section to enter your bank, account number and password! This is a really strong indicator (dead giveaway really) that you're looking at a scam.

No government agency is going to ask you for your banking details.

Under no circumstances do you give your banking password out... ever.

If you have signed into this fraudulent mygov site, you should change your real my.gov.au password immediately.

Stay safe everyone! 😎

NEVER give remote control of your computer to anyone you don't implicitly trust.

If in doubt, DON'T. Ask questions if you need to.

Giving remote access to someone gives them the right to use your computer acting as you. Think about that. They can even use your saved passwords. They can also copy and delete files, install programs, basically whatever they want. On top of that, they can lock your keyboard and mouse while they are active so you can't interrupt and they can even black the screen out so you can't see what they are doing.

If the worst does happen, remember you can always turn the computer off by holding the power button for a few seconds, or pulling the plug. That's still better than allowing a criminal free unrestricted access to your computer!

Stay safe everyone 😎

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️: Be on the lookout for investment scammers asking to remote into your home computer to steal your personal details for fraud and identity theft.
