People often ask me why I chose this line of work; a physically demanding and at times dangerous role. My answer is simple, I love helping horses.
The reward of my job doesn’t come in the form of seeing a finished result, but rather working with, building a trust and most importantly making a horse feel more comfortable on it’s own feet.
Horses are highly intelligent and intuitive creatures driven by a strong fight or flight response. To often I hear horror stories of people losing their temper, hitting horses and making their trimming/shoeing experience a traumatic memory.
I firmly believe in, “taking the time that it takes, to take less time”. Horses are incredibly fast learners and working with them, at their own pace, to make their trimming experience a POSITIVE and RELAXING one is by far my biggest aspiration.
When I go to see a horse, I’m there to help them. I’m there to help improve their hoof condition, (which in turn improves their overall comfort and wellbeing), but also to help build their confidence and build their relationship with humans.

This picture was taken during a young filly’s first ever trim. She begun very nervous and unsure as everything was forgein to her. She jittered and moved rapidly as she would scare easily. After taking a few extra minute to reassure her and let her understand what I was asking of her, she calmed right down and put her trust in me.
Shortly enough, she didn’t need to be held, she would pick her feet up in anticipation, hung her head in a relaxed stance and drifted off to sleep.
Knowing I made this little filly’s first trimming experience an enjoyable one. Seeing her put her trust in me, a complete stranger and knowing she knew I was there to help her, not hurt her. Now that; that’s the reason I do the job I do.
