As we approach World Sexual Health Day, we should be thinking about how we can make people safer, how can we build their knowledge and understanding of their own bodies, and most importantly, what would it take for this to be true everywhere?

World Sexual Health Day is September 4 and it carries a different theme every year.
2026 is the year of Every Body. Not just everybody, but every. body.
All bodies should have access to health care, education and autonomy.

World Sexual Health Day (WSHD) is the annual global initiative of the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS). Each September 4, health professionals, advocates, educators, researchers, and communities around the world come together around a shared theme.

For 2026, that theme is Every Body.

Bodies are personal, relational and political. We live, express and experience through them — asking, choosing, refusing, desiring. That begins with ourselves. It continues in our relationships, in the education and services we can reach, and in the culture, faith, technology and law that decide whose s*xuality is protected.

Disabled people have the same spectrum of s*xuality, s*xual preferences and s*xual expression as people without disability.

Whether it’s individually, with a partner/s or with a disability-friendly s*x worker, they deserve, and have the same rights as anyone else to explore and express these things.

You can find out more, and find resources about accessing s*x workers on our website: https://www.touchingbase.org/clients/

In light of feedback from community members, the Touching Base Committee is sharing this call out for expressions of interest (EOI) from graphic design artists for pro bono work. We are seeking designers/artists with excellent free-hand drawing skills who would be able to characterise our real case studies of people with disability in their experiences of intimacy and s*xual expression - without using AI.

This is an opportunity to contribute to advocating for the s*xual rights of disabled people with disability through showcasing your graphic design/art skills as a part of our campaign: Physical Intimacy is a Human Right – not an ‘Extra’ .

If you are interested, please email our Operations Manager Saul - via [email protected] - outlining your availability to provide artwork within the next month and include some examples of your work to demonstrate your skills, artistic style and expertise.

We thank you in advance for your interest and the generous gift of your time and skills. We are so looking forward to continuing with our existing campaign work without the use of AI (given our limited resources) and your contribution will hopefully make this possible.

Tomorrow is Wear It Purple Day! 💜

Across Queensland, we’re encouraging everyone to wear purple and show their support for LGBTQIA+ young people.

This year’s theme, Colours of Courage, celebrates the courage it takes to be yourself and the power of communities that stand alongside LGBTQIA+ young people.

So wherever you are across the state, wear it purple tomorrow and help create a Queensland where every young person feels seen, supported and proud to be who they are💜🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Looking to get involved? Visit the Wear It Purple website to find events and activities happening in your area.

Big news for Queensland families!

We're excited to share that Transcend Australia has been awarded $300,000 through the Australian Government's LGBTIQA+ Health Program, administered by LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, to expand support for trans, gender diverse and non-binary young people and their families across Queensland.

Building on our Queensland Connected Communities project, this funding will help us expand family and youth support services, with a focus on regional Queensland.

Over the next two years, we'll be providing more:
-Peer support and connection
-Service navigation
-Trusted information and resources
-Online and in-person support for families

When families have access to trusted information, community and practical support, they're better equipped to support their trans young people to thrive.

We're incredibly grateful to the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia for investing in community-led support that will help more Queensland families access the care, connection and confidence they deserve.

Did you know that disabled people have the right to s*xual expression, just like people without disabilities?

Touching Base advocates for access, discrimination, human rights and legal issues and the attitudinal barriers that face people with disabilities and s*x workers who provide services to them.

What would you do if your s*xual rights were taken away by the government?
