What I love most about my work isn't business.

It's the people.

I get to spend my days with people who have a vision for something bigger.

People who are willing to back themselves.

People who ask better questions.

People who are prepared to step outside their comfort zone because they know that's where growth happens.

That doesn't mean they always feel confident.

Or that they never doubt themselves.

It means they keep showing up.

They stay curious.

They're willing to challenge their own thinking and learn new skills to become better leaders, communicators, decision-makers and business owners.

To me, that's what a growth mindset really looks like.

Not having all the answers.

But having the willingness to keep developing.

Because development isn't about becoming someone different.

It's about becoming more of who you're capable of being.

Watching that unfold is one of the greatest privileges of what I do.

Some of the best business conversations happen when you bring different perspectives together.

Last week's GetLinked Think Tank did exactly that.

Hearing a financial advisor, accountant and bookkeeper tackle the same questions from their own areas of expertise was incredibly valuable, and a timely reminder as we head into a new financial year.

Really enjoyed facilitating this panel. There was so much wisdom shared throughout the morning, here are just a few insights worth noting.

๐Ÿ’ก Your business finances shouldn't be planned in isolation. Your personal goals, lifestyle and financial commitments all play a part in the bigger picture.

๐Ÿ’ก If your business has excess cash, make sure it has a job. Whether that's reinvesting, investing elsewhere, or strengthening your position, intentional decisions create long-term results.

๐Ÿ’ก Sustainable businesses are built on consistent financial habits, not occasional good years.

And one insight that reached far beyond business...

๐Ÿ’ก Start teaching your children about money early.

Saving.
Investing.
Understanding how money works.

These are life skills that can shape their future in ways we often underestimate.

Not all communication challenges are communication challenges.

Sometimes theyโ€™re understanding challenges.

Recently during a DISC team training session, we watched a few lightbulb moments happen around the room.

People started realising that what they interpreted as disinterest, frustration, micromanagement, or lack of urgency wasnโ€™t necessarily any of those things.

It was simply a different communication style.

And thatโ€™s where things get interesting.

Because most people arenโ€™t trying to be difficult.

Theyโ€™re communicating through their own lens.

When teams understand that, conversations change.

Feedback lands better.
Misunderstandings reduce.
People stop making assumptions about intent.

And the team becomes stronger as a result.

The goal isnโ€™t for everyone to communicate the same way.

The goal is to understand each other well enough to communicate effectively.

It's interesting how often we say we need more time.

Yet when we look closer, the challenge is rarely the number of hours available.

There comes a point in every growing business where memory stops being enough.

What got the business this far was experience.

Knowing how things should be done.
Knowing how to solve problems.
Knowing what good looks like.

The challenge is that all of that knowledge often lives in one place.

The ownerโ€™s head.

And thatโ€™s usually when growth starts to feel heavier than it should.

The team asks more questions.
Decisions keep coming back to the same person.
Things get missed when theyโ€™re away.

Not because people arenโ€™t capable.

Because the knowledge isnโ€™t accessible.

Thatโ€™s why the first stage of systemisation isnโ€™t building systems.

Itโ€™s recognising how much of your business already exists in your head and finding a way to transfer it into the business.

I've spent years practicing reflection through meditation, yoga and personal development.

Asking questions like:

What am I feeling?
What can I learn from this?
What needs to change?

But looking back, I wasn't applying that same level of reflection to my business.

And I think many business owners do the same.

We move from one challenge to the next.
One decision to the next.
One week to the next.

Without ever stopping to ask:

"What is this teaching me?"

Because reflection isn't about looking backwards.

It's about creating awareness.

And awareness gives us the opportunity to make better choices moving forward.

I've found that the business owners who grow the fastest are the ones who create space to think.

To reflect.

To learn from their experiences instead of simply moving on from them.

Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do for your business isn't taking more action.

It's taking a moment to understand what the action is teaching you.
