Today is the two year anniversary of my kidney transplant.

A week after I turned 18, I started dialysis. After 3 years and 7 months of peritoneal dialysis, on 25 August 2024, I received a kidney transplant.

I’m still incredibly grateful to the person who donated their kidney to me. I will never know who you are, but I will never forget you.

Your life was cut short, and I’m sorry that your family is remembering this day in a very different way to how I am. I hope that knowing your decision to become an organ donor to give someone else the chance to live a life they may not otherwise have had, helps them know that you live on.

I’m also incredibly grateful to the specialist, doctors and nurses who have looked after me, and continue to do so, and to the surgeons at the PA Hospital who gave me this second chance.

I will never forget the doctor who sent me to hospital one Sunday in April 2018.

A few days earlier, I’d gone into the clinic because I thought I’d had an allergic reaction. He did a urine test and sent me for blood tests. On the Sunday morning, he went into the clinic specifically to check whether my results had come back.

When he saw them, he called Mum and told her to take me to hospital immediately.

Because he recognised the significance of the results and had knowledge of FSGS, I was able to get the care I needed much sooner than I otherwise might have.

And finally, to all of my clients over the years who have supported me with bookings, and who have been so understanding whenever I had to reschedule or cancel because I wasn't well, thank you.

There are a lot of people who have played a part in getting me to where I am today. Two years on, I don't take any of it for granted.
