🎉 We’re excited to announce that Alexandrina Council is a finalist in the 2024 National Economic Development Awards for Excellence, in the category of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Economic Development.
This recognition highlights our collaborative efforts with the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation at the Signal Point Experience Centre, a key Council building within the Goolwa Wharf Precinct.
Since launching in March 2024, the Centre’s permanent exhibition ‘Yuntulun Ku:li-War’ (which means ‘Coming together on the headland’ in the Ngarrindjeri language) has been telling the stories of the Ngarrindjeri people, Goolwa's early settlement, and the ecology of the Murray Darling River system.
In May 2024, the First Nations Business Networking Event was the inaugural event at the renovated and reopened Signal Point.
This event was organised in partnership with The Circle First Nations Entrepreneur Hub, Many Rivers microenterprise support, the Adelaide Hills Council, and the Mount Barker District Council. It provided a platform for 50 stakeholders in Indigenous cultural tourism and creative industries, further underscoring our dedication to supporting First Nations.
Winners will be announced at the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC) Awards Gala Event on 17 October 2024.
