🎉 We’re excited to announce that Alexandrina Council is a finalist in the 2024 National Economic Development Awards for Excellence, in the category of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Economic Development.

This recognition highlights our collaborative efforts with the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation at the Signal Point Experience Centre, a key Council building within the Goolwa Wharf Precinct.

Since launching in March 2024, the Centre’s permanent exhibition ‘Yuntulun Ku:li-War’ (which means ‘Coming together on the headland’ in the Ngarrindjeri language) has been telling the stories of the Ngarrindjeri people, Goolwa's early settlement, and the ecology of the Murray Darling River system.

In May 2024, the First Nations Business Networking Event was the inaugural event at the renovated and reopened Signal Point.

This event was organised in partnership with The Circle First Nations Entrepreneur Hub, Many Rivers microenterprise support, the Adelaide Hills Council, and the Mount Barker District Council. It provided a platform for 50 stakeholders in Indigenous cultural tourism and creative industries, further underscoring our dedication to supporting First Nations.

Winners will be announced at the National Economic Development Conference (NEDC) Awards Gala Event on 17 October 2024.

Exciting times for the Fleurieu Peninsula! 👏🏻

With the Federal Government's endorsement, a South Coast Regional Study Hub is set to be established at the Victor Harbor TAFE campus, marking a significant advancement for the region.

It will create opportunities for higher education in our region, supporting the retention of youth on the Fleurieu Peninsula and the development of a highly skilled local workforce.

This achievement follows extensive collaborative efforts over the years involving Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island, as well as Alexandrina Council, Rural City of Murray Bridge, City of Victor Harbor, District Council of Yankalilla, TAFE SA, schools across the region, and many others.

We are absolutely thrilled with Monday’s announcement by the Hon. Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education, that our submission for a Regional University Hub at TAFE SA Victor Harbor has been successful!

The funding announcement for the South Coast Study Hub represents a significant milestone for the education landscape on the Fleurieu.

The ongoing collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island have forged with local councils, education providers, industry, business and community groups, are paving the way for a brighter future, where all individuals have equal access to quality education and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
