Goolwa shed rebuild progress following last year'sbattery fire

Today we've had some new roller doors installed, so I guess that means the shed rebuild is ... rolling along (sorry 🙃).

We're definitely glad to be able to utilise more of the shed bays, but there will still be some restrictions and diversions for a little while to go. Thanks for everyone's patience.

🔥 Please remember - no battery in any bin or hidden in depot waste. Please separate and let the gatehouse attendant know for free (and safe) disposal.

👷🛠 Goolwa shed rebuild update.

⚡💡 Walls are up, and most of the roof, with a lot of electrical work going on at the moment.

There is still a lot of work to go, but we are excited that it's starting to look the part again.

🔥 This weekend marks a year since a battery fire caused all the damage. Please remember that all batteries are a fire risk. NO batteries in any bin or hidden in depot waste. Free battery disposal at all FRWA Depots, or Google bcycle for other free options.

We thank everyone for their support during the rebuild and for their patience with any diversions.

📣 We are seeking two independent board members for a term of 3 years. The Board consists of four people from member Councils, an independent chairperson and two independent members.



The Board of Management is responsible for managing the business and other affairs of the Authority and ensuring that the Authority acts in accordance with its Charter and any delegations made to it.



We are seeking one independent member with Local Government finance skills and one independent member with strong governance skills.



The Board of Management meets a minimum of six (6) times per year at the Goolwa office. A sitting fee will be paid to the successful appointees. Members will be required to comply with the relevant provisions of the Local Government Act 1999.

👉 This weekend (and next 😀) - half-price green disposal.

During the 2nd and 3rd weekends of October, FRWA and Councils are offering 50% off green waste disposal. These weekends are a great opportunity to spring clean your garden and get ready for bushfire season.

🌳 Goolwa Depot (1226 Port Elliot Road, 9.00 am to 3.30 pm)

Your green waste becomes local mulch – eventually

Green waste + machinery + labour + time + transport = mulch
Our region’s green waste that comes through the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) Waste and Recycling Depots is a perfect example of the circular economy. A waste product that used to end up in landfill is now processed and converted into useful mulch.

If you're dropping off a load of green waste, why not fill up the empty trailer by buying some local mulch - your garden will thank you for it. Please remember to bring a suitable tarp to completely cover the mulch load; a tarp must be shown to the gatehouse attendant to buy mulch.

Monday 5/10 bin collections will happen as per your usual collection schedule, so don’t forget to put your bins out on Sunday night.

⏰ Long weekend depot hours – all depots and FRWA offices are closed on the public holiday Monday 5/10.

👏Wow - what a difference a few days can make. There's been a lot of progress on our shed rebuild. The shed was damaged last October due to a hidden battery fire.

Possible short-term delays and diversions - thanks for your patience.

❌🔥Please remember: NO batteries in any bin or hidden in Depot waste - FREE disposal at all depots.

The rebuild is scheduled to be completed in December, ready for the start of the summer peak weekly recycling period.
