The New Financial Year is Nearly Here!
With the new financial year beginning on Tuesday, it’s the perfect opportunity to refocus and set your business up for a successful year ahead. Here are three essential actions we’re looking at in our own businesses, and for you to consider as you get started with FY2026:
1. Review Your Business Flight Plan
We often get business plans wrong, making them something we do once and then leave sitting on a shelf gathering dust.
Instead, think of your business strategy as a flight plan: dynamic and continually adjusted as conditions change. Take time to review your goals, assess your progress, check and plan for any headwinds, and ensure your strategy remains aligned with the current market and your long-term vision. Staying flexible allows you to navigate challenges and seize new opportunities as they arise.
2. Audit Where Your Time Goes
Time is your most valuable asset. Yet it is incredible, as business owners and leaders, just how many things creep into our schedules and routines that take us away from our core mission.
Use the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) to identify which activities yield the greatest results and which may be consuming time without delivering value. Encourage your team to do the same. By consciously reallocating time and resources to your highest-impact tasks, you’ll boost productivity and drive better outcomes.
As a word of warning: this can be a confronting task. It sounds simple, but when we really look at where our time is going from one week to the next, it can be a shock.
3. Reconnect with Your Team and Stakeholders
A new financial year is an ideal moment to check in with your team and key stakeholders. Open up lines of communication, share your vision for the year ahead, and invite feedback. This not only strengthens relationships but also ensures everyone is aligned and motivated to achieve shared goals.
You’d be amazed at the results that can be achieved even just by touching base with customers you haven’t engaged with for a while, with no agenda other than checking in to see how they are going. Show people you care about them - genuinely care - and you will see results!
Bonus Point: Bring in Your Support Team
No business owner or leader is an island who can achieve it all themselves. No matter how much we put the pressure on ourselves, expecting ourselves to “get it done”, we need a team around us.
I’d love to be on your team!
