We come together each week to share ideas, educate each other on our respective specialties and pass business referrals which in turn assists in growing each others businesses. ⚡ Think you can handle a few electrical jobs around the house yourself? Think again!

At today's Brisbane Networking Group meeting, Chris Moore from Agile Electrical and Data shared some practical insights into electrical work in Queensland, and there were a few surprises.

Here are three valuable takeaways:

🔌 DIY electrical work: Replacing a power point, removing a light fitting or even running cable can count as electrical work that must be done by a licensed professional.

💡 Save on call-out costs: Clear the work area, communicate the problem clearly and avoid booking multiple trades at the same time.

🏠 Lost power? Before calling an electrician, check your switchboard, see if your neighbours have power and check Energex outage information. If a safety switch keeps tripping, or you’re unsure what to do, call a licensed electrician.

A great reminder that knowing when to call a professional can save time, money and potentially prevent serious injury.

🏠 Is property still the default path to building wealth?

At our latest Brisbane Networking Group presentation, Leigh Smith from Track Wealth challenged us to think differently about how Australians approach investing.

One of the key takeaways was that property doesn’t have to be the only wealth-building strategy.

Leigh explained how some investors can use home equity to invest in a diversified portfolio of shares, ETFs and managed funds, with the aim of gradually reducing non-deductible home debt while building an investment portfolio.

But the strategy isn’t for everyone.

📈 It requires a long-term mindset
💰 Stable cash flow is important
📉 Investors need to be comfortable with market volatility
⏳ Leigh recommends thinking in terms of a 7–10 year timeframe

Perhaps the biggest lesson? Your investment strategy is only as good as your ability to stick with it. Market downturns are inevitable, but reacting emotionally can turn a temporary fall into a permanent loss.

🚨 Your website might look great… but can people actually find you?

That was one of the key takeaways from Cath Koch of GainFlow at Brisbane Networking Group.

A few practical reminders from Cath’s presentation:

🔹 Your website needs more than good design. The technical setup, metadata, schema and SEO all help Google and AI understand what your business actually does.

🔹 You have about five seconds to make it clear who you help, what you do and where you operate.

🔹 Your Google Business Profile matters. Keep it updated, add plenty of photos, collect reviews and, importantly, respond to them, including the less-than-perfect ones.

🔹 If your business receives a high volume of enquiries, manual processes can be costing you time. Websites can now connect with CRMs, calendars, quoting systems and automated follow-ups.

🔹 And don't forget your website isn't just about talking about you. The content should clearly communicate what your customers get from working with you.

Your accountant should be doing more than helping you tick the tax boxes. 💡

At Brisbane Networking Group, Michael Hall from Strive Satisfied gave us a fascinating look at how accounting is evolving beyond tax and compliance.
