ARENA has announced funding to Ground Source Systems to demonstrate a full-scale solar PV and ground-source heat pump system, with gas backup, for heating and cooling at a commercial broiler facility in Yanderra, NSW.

The hybrid system will see the installation of a 100-200 kW thermal ground source heat pump system to replace LPG as a fuel for heating and cooling a single shed for housing chickens.

The University of Melbourne is assisting Ground Source Systems on the project by providing data analysis, content generation and knowledge sharing across the sector.

A Welshpool Engineering company and its director have been fined a total of $460,000 (and ordered to pay $5,000 in costs) over the fatality of a worker on their premises.

The incident happened when a forklift operator attempted to offload two pieces of pipe, and one of them rolled off the tines of the forklift and off the farside of the semi-trailer, fatally injuring a truck driver who was working between the truck and a limestone wall. WorkSafe Commissioner Darren Kavanagh said the case was a tragic example of failure by multiple duty holders to provide a safe working environment for the truck driver.

The Mine Safety Management System (MSMS) Code of Practice is now available!

👫 Following extensive industry consultation and public comment, the MSMS code of practice has been approved by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum and endorsed by both the Mining Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC) and the Work Health and Safety Commission (WHSC).

📘 This Code helps mine operators meet the requirements of the WHS laws to establish and implement an MSMS for a mine.
The Code may also be a useful reference for persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) at a mine or other persons interested in complying with the duties under the WHS laws.
