Own a business and going through a separation? Often one party is left paying all the expenses while trying to juggle the demands of the business. Valuing and dividing business assets in a property settlement isn’t as simple as splitting a bank account. Goodwill, ongoing income, and future business viability all need to be carefully considered. Our team has experience helping business owners navigate this process as quickly as possible.

Family trusts are often set up to protect assets — but they can make property settlements more complicated when a relationship ends. Courts can look behind trust structures to determine what’s genuinely available for division. If trusts are part of your financial picture, specialist advice matters.

Did you receive an inheritance before or during your relationship? Whether — and how — it’s treated in a property settlement depends on several factors, including timing and how the funds were used. It’s a common area of confusion, and one where the right advice early on can make a real difference.

Wow - another 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a recently posted google review for Holly Lynch - Special Counsel.

I am grateful to Holly and the team at Rafton Family Lawyers for supporting me through a difficult and stressful period in my life.

For a long time, I felt that I was on the back foot. My former partner was represented by a very aggressive, conflict-driven solicitor. Litigation was endless and I felt constantly on the defense, playing catch up. My instinct at times was that we needed to respond with equal force.

Holly took a different approach. She kept a cool head, remained measured and conciliatory, and focused on the issues that actually mattered rather than being drawn into the conflict. I will admit that there were times when this approach did not feel right — particularly when I felt under attack and wanted a stronger response. But Holly understood the family law process far better than I did and kept reminding me to focus on the bigger picture.

In the long run, her approach proved to be the right one as I was able to achieve what I set out to achieve. The process was long, expensive and emotionally exhausting. Holly and Rafton were there for me, and gave me realistic advise about the prospects of my matter and helped me distinguish the noise from what really mattered. I would highly recommend them to anyone facing a complex, difficult or highly contentious family law matter.
