In response to the Elgo Estate post last week, I would like to address some points raised.
Firstly, I take full responsibility for the extended period of time to pay this in full. We have been working to reduce the amount owed and appreciate that the delay has caused Suzie and Grant additional stress, which I deeply regret.
I have always been committed to paying this in full.
I want to acknowledge that as a grower and maker, it is clear all participants in the industry are suffering across the board - from retail, restaurants and distribution through to farming. It is not exclusively reserved for any one part of the industry. We all suffer from unpaid debts which are often unrecoverable. Navigating the pressure the industry is under is a reality that needs to be explained, but it is not an excuse, I take full responsibility for duration of this repayment.
Our suppliers have been very patient as we work diligently to overcome this challenge. We do not take this grace and trust for granted and are committed to meeting all our obligations. We are acutely aware of these stresses as we also work with many customers who are facing significant challenges.
At the core of this industry and our community are people. To all those affected over the last years, including our exceptional team, various suppliers and the growers we have been slow to pay, I am deeply sorry and doing everything I can to turn this around. I am optimistic about the future of our industry as we work through this period. It is an incredible industry to be involved in.
