Hello all - I have been working with Anmatyere people in an amazing remote Aboriginal Community - Yuelamu (which is 3 hours north west of Alice Springs into the Tanami Desert). They have self funded the establishment of their own art centre and I am working with them to help set it up.

To help us get up and going we would love it if you could support us by buying our art for Christmas ;)

please go here to check out the Art: https://shop.circulanation.org/collections/inkwareny-artists-of-yuelamu?page=2

A fascinating article reflecting on ancient wisdom, systems evaluation, and Tyson Yunkaporta's brilliant book Sand Talk...

"As Tyson Yunkaporta says, ‘adaptation is the most important protocol of an agent in a sustainable system’. We should be realistic about what our interventions may be sufficient for achieving and we should not anticipate that what worked here and now will work there and then. We need to unburden ourselves from our mental model of a clockwork universe, where programs either work or don’t work and are easily replicated and scaled up. Programs are not complicated machines. They are living, breathing organisms that adapt and thrive in some contexts and become extinct in others. Tyson reminds us of the wisdom of his elders ‘if you don’t move with the land, the land will move you’."

As I sit down to reflect on this Mabo day I am listening to my most played Spotify song of 2019 – My Island Home by the Warumpi band. Spotify serves up an eclectic mix of songs that provides me with a

🌱Leanganook Yarn works with inspiring people on fantastic projects.

One of those is the Grow Cook Share project at the Gravel Hill Community Garden.

We recently conducted a participatory evaluation of this important initiative, unlocking learning that will clarify and strengthen the work.

We all deserve access to affordable fresh food. Keep up the great work and thanks for partnering with us 😀🥦🥒🍎🌱

Bendigo Foodshare Bendigo Regional Food Alliance The Salvation Army Bendigo Bendigo TAFE - RTO no. 3077 City of Greater Bendigo Coliban Water Pick My Project

Today, we celebrated one year of Grow Cook Share at the Gravel Hill Community Garden.

The initiative made big gains in improving the fresh food available to people experiencing food poverty, redeveloped the community garden, and set up six cooking clubs to teach people how to cook affordable and nutritious meals at home.

The project is moving into a new phase and is seeking ongoing funding.

We want to acknowledge the work of our project partners Bendigo Regional Food Alliance, The Salvation Army Bendigo, Kangan TAFE, City of Greater Bendigo and Coliban Water as well as Victorian Government for funding delivered via the Pick My Project initiative.

We also want to thank local businesses and organisations for all their support: Masons of Bendigo, Bendigo Organics, Eaglehawk Community House, Kangaroo Flat Neighbourhood House, Heathcote Community House, Anglicare Victoria, Saltworks Eaglehawk, Kalianna School Bendigo, Organics Bendigo, McDonald’s Nursery, Mitre 10, Bush’s Produce Store, Connecting 2 Australia and Bendigo Community Fruit, among many others.

For over a year, Leanganook Yarn has been working with Desert Pea Media, a non-profit whose mission is to work with Original Nations Australians to create social change through collaborative storytelling.

Natalie Moxham, founder of Leanganook Yarn and one of the facilitators of our Tools for Participation Training coming up in October, has been working with Desert Pea to measure their Theory Of Change, enabling the organisation and its funders to better understand the impact of its work with young people and communities. ⁣

In DPM's own words, "the process has stimulated some fascinating and challenging learnings for DPM, as we reflect on our work, the community and how best to ‘sharpen our edges’. The evaluation also produced an ‘evaluation film’,. which was co/directed by Natalie and DPM filmmaker Mitchell O'Hearn (film coming soon!). ⁣

In the meanwhile, here's a short film about the DPM 2020 Cultural Camp held in March, which was co-facilitated by Leanganook Yarn. Enjoy!

So lovely to work with Desert Pea

Introducing Natalie Moxham, a friend, collaborator and specialist evaluator/researcher that runs a small business called Leanganook Yarn - empowering small organisations through evaluation processes. ⁣

Natalie has been working with us for more than 12 months measuring our Theory Of Change - following our work so that we, and our finders may better understand the impact of our work on young people and communities. ⁣

The film (soon to be released online) follows the recent PHN FNQ ‘Break It Down’ initiative in North QLD, and is really amazing! Stay tuned!!!⁣
