There’s more growing between the vines than grapes.

We’ve planted bitter pea through parts of the vineyard as a cover crop and while it might not look particularly remarkable, it has an important job to do.

As a legume, it helps fix nitrogen into the soil, naturally contributing to the health and fertility of the vineyard.

And then the cows get involved. 🐄

They’ll graze through the cover crop, returning nutrients and organic matter to the soil as they go all helping prepare the vineyard for the burst of spring growth ahead.

It’s a simple little cycle: grow, graze, return, grow again.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads and father figures out there. 💛

Today is a day to celebrate the people who turn up, lend a hand, share their wisdom and somehow find themselves helping with all sorts of weird and wonderful things along the way.

Which brings us to our own Farmer Jim…

Over the years, making Ian’s many ideas and dreams for Bago a reality has involved some fairly obscure tasks and Dad has been there for more of them than we can count.

Never really questioning what he’s been asked to do… although usually offering a few helpful suggestions along the way.

Looking back through these photos, it’s amazing to see just how much of Bago has Dad’s handiwork, problem-solving, patience and good humour behind it.

From the everyday jobs to the slightly questionable ones, he’s simply got on with it and helped make things happen.

So today, a very big thank you, Dad, for all the years of hard work, advice and for continuing to say yes to Ian’s ideas!

And a very Happy Father’s Day from our Bago family to yours. 🌿

Who knew digging a hole could be so interesting? Just look at that beautiful red soil.

This is the rich, fertile ground on the lower flats at Bago, where our Chardonnay vines grow alongside the Maze — and when you see what’s underneath, it’s easy to understand why they’re so happy here.

Good soil is the beginning of so much on a farm. It feeds the vines, supports the maze and quietly does its work beneath our feet, year after year.

Sometimes the most interesting parts of Bago are the ones you don't usually get to see.

Next time you’re wandering through the Maze or enjoying a glass of our Chardonnay, there’s a whole lot happening underneath you. 🌿🍇

Hello, spring 🌱

The first signs of a new season are appearing in the vineyard, with fresh green growth beginning to emerge along the vines.

After their winter rest, the vineyard is slowly waking up again — tiny new shoots now, followed by months of growing, flowering and fruit to come.

It’s one of our favourite times of year at Bago. The days get a little warmer, the farm gets a little greener, and the vineyard begins another season.

Happy first day of spring from Bago. 🌿🍇

A little less alcohol. A little more afternoon. 🍷

A little behind the scenes as our new Picnic Wines make their way from the bottling line to the Bago Cellar Door.

🌸 Slightly Savvy is back — fresh, fruity, floral and lightly spritzy.

🍒 Slightly Norty is the newest member of the Bago family — made from our Norton grapes, juicy, playful and gently spritzy.

Both are lower alcohol at around 7%, made for long lunches, picnic rugs, grazing platters and afternoons that stretch on a little longer.

Which one are you pouring — Savvy or Norty?

Available now at the Cellar Door and online.

Our beautiful vineyard guru Debbie has decided it’s time to pack away her secateurs, recently retiring from her days in the vineyard to spend a bit more time chasing those elusive big fish.

Debbie has been part of the Bago Team for over 10 years. Her pride in keeping the vineyard and farm looking picture perfect has been second to none.

We would like to thank Debbie for all the hard work over the years and for her wonderful friendship. We wish her all the best and hope she catches many big fish…

Sometimes you just have to look up. 🌿
A flash of colour and a whole lot of noise as a flock of rainbow lorikeets passes overhead.
Just another little moment in a day at Bago.
