Thought I would make a small tribute to this man, Roy (Reinhart) Lewin. Roy recently passed away and he had no children and his wife Lotte died a few years ago.
He was approximately 86 years old and was born in Germany.
After he left school he worked in a Ford factory in Germany, then lived in Italy for a while and then emigrated to Australia with his wife Lotte.
He had a few jobs in Australia before moving to Port Moresby where he got a job as an armed security guard. He had a fi***rm licence and was a member of a local pistol club.
He then moved back to Australia around 35 years ago and settled in Hervey Bay where he started a saw sharpening business. This is how I got to know him around 25 years ago.
Roy could speak 4 languages (German, English, Pigeon English and Italian). I will always remember fondly his reactions when I made attempts to speak his German lingo. He would always chastise me and try and correct me with pronunciation and written explanations.(" why have three words for something, when you can have one") He was assertive but always with good humour, I will miss those moments. The fact he could speak German came in handy also, as some of my German made machines had manuals written in German, that he had to interpret for me.
He was a very sincere man and I respected him greatly. Rest in peace Roy.
