The EWPA and TSHA operator cards went to digital format from August 2024. Anyone with the plastic, wallet sized EWP 'Yellow Card' or Telescopic handler 'Gold Card' with photo will be issued a digital version only when they renew.
Renewal can be done online, subjetc to a few T&Cs.
Any person training successfully from August 2024 automatically gets a digital version of their card. The 5 year renewal remains unchanged.
Most organisations are moving towards digital versions of licences and cards so the EWPA/TSHA are not alone. It can be very convenient as new trainees or those renewing their card receive the digital version almost intantaniously. The digital card can be stored in their smart phone wallet. They also receive a downloadable PDF version which can be printed or emailed.

EWPA Launches digital Yellow Card Licence
Since 1987, the EWPA has been providing training for operators of Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs) through its Yellow Card training program.

With over 200 Trainers across Australia, EWPA Accredited Trainers have trained over 500,000 operators. Thanks to their work and the quality of the program, EWPA Yellow Cards are widely accepted across many different industry sectors.

Over the years we have undergone a process of continuous improvement, with feedback from industry, operators, auditors and from our Accredited Trainers that has gone into updated versions of the Yellow Card program.

Now, we are pleased to announce we have also launched a Digital EWPA Operator Licence - Yellow Card. Secure digital credentials are becoming more common, we have seen driving licences move to this format as well as the high risk work platform licence in NSW. We know that operators lose cards and wallets, and replacing physical cards is a time-consuming process to print and post replacements.

Additionally, to provide clarity for operators and site supervisors, the EWPA has registered a trademark for ‘Yellow Card”. This legal protection will resolve any misunderstanding from operators and site supervisors as to who delivered the training and ensure that operators and sites can easily see that the Yellow Card Operator Licence has been issued by the EWPA

Both the EWPA Yellow Card and the TSHA Gold Card (for telehandlers) will be available from Tuesday 6 August in a secure digital format for operators to store in their digital wallets.

Information on EWPA Operating Licence Yellow Card, booking training, renewals, replacement cards and verifying licences will continue to be available on the EWPA website from Tuesday 6 August 2024.

The EWP 'Yellow Card is still in high demand. The preferred provider of the EWP operator ‘Yellow Card’ is undoubtedly the EWPA (Elevating Work Platform Association of Australia).
DAT Training has two accredited EWPA trainers who can deliver training not just in the Newcastle/Hunter region but in most regional/rural NSW locations.
This national organisation (EWPA) has 200 accredited trainers delivering training is all states and territories. In 2023, these trainers provided over 26,000 yellow cards via the one day course!
Successful trainees receive a plastic wallet card with photo. The card is nationally recognised and needs to be renewed every 5 years.
In 2024 there will be significant changes to the training program. The most obvious for those seeking training will be the easier, electronic enrolment process and an electronic card for successful trainees.
The yellow card is still the preferred ‘proof of competency’ for operators of EWPs.

MEWPs (mobile elevating work platforms) have a 'Gradeability'. That is scissor lifts or boom lifts that can travel under their own power have limits to what gradient they can drive up or down. For example, loading a MEWPO onto a tilt tray.....can it drive up or must it be winched? This type of specific information is part of the knowledge covered ihj the EWP Yellow Card course. The course explains all the important information provided by the manufacturer on the machine data plate. This means the course may be of benefit even to experienced operators who want a 'refresher'.
