Please Note - That due to health issues we will no longer be able to take any (Ferrous) general scrap metal from Easter 2023. However there will be no change with our trading in Non Ferrous Metals. As we will still be buying Alluminium, Brass, Copper, Electric Cable, Vehicle Batteries, Radiators etc. And there will also be no change to our Second Chance Recycle Shop. Thanking you for your co-operation.

Currently Buying all types of Copper. Such as: Copper Pipe, Copper Tanks, Copper Ornaments, Copper Wire, Electrical PVC Coated Wire, as well as Electrical Motors & Appliance cords. So dont just take it to the tip, bring it into Heyfield Scrap Metal Recyclers at 17-19 Firebrace Rd Heyfield and get paid for it. But please be mindfull that we need to see it before we can price it, so as such we do not give prices over the phone without seeing it. Simply because copper is graded and as such prices differ.

Please do not leave scrap metal and items outside the front gate as we are not the tip and dumping is illegal. And as the business is operating under reduced hours, Amy dosnt have the time to clean up all the dumped items out the front all the time. Normally when we are away the business is closed for the duration, but Amy has offered to keep the place open as a service to the community, so please do not abuse her generousity. Thanking you.

Currently buying 'Brass & Gunmetal'. So what is Gunmetal one might ask. Well Gunmetal is usually the metal scrappies dont want you to know about. Primarily because it is worth more than brass. Gunmetal is made of copper and brass, which means it is worth more than just brass. So how do you tell. Well you get a grinder or a file and scratch the surface of the metal. If it is a yellow honey color, it is brass. If it is a coppery pink color it is gunmetal. SEE EXAMPLE BELOW. In the left of the photo is a Brass fitting, as the scratch test shows up yellow. But in the Right of the photo where there are 2 x Gunmetal metal fittings, it shows up pinkish. So without doing the test you wouldnt know and you could be loosing money. For just to look at them they all just look like brass fittings, and of which brass is worth less money to you than Gunmetal. And dont scrappies just love your gift, if you dont know what your metals are. So this is just another lesson on how you can make money too, just by knowing the difference between Brass & Gunmetal. When selling scrap metal to scrappies, you only have to remember that its the Non-Ferrous Metals that are worth the most money. That's why there is a longer list for Non Ferrous Metals, than that of just Iron, which is a Ferrous (Magnetic) Metal. So in order to remember them, I have outlined an ABC TABLE, which I call the ABC's of Scrap Metal.

The easiest way to remember what is a Non Ferrous Metal, is by use of the ABC's. Of which I call the ABC's of Scrap Metal.

A = Aluminium
B = Batteries & Brass
C = Copper & Catalytic Converters
E = Electric Motors & Electric Wire Cable
G = Gunmetal
I = Iron (Steel which is a Ferrous Metal)
L = Lead
R = Radiators (Aluminium & Copper)
S = Stainless Steel

(There are other precious non ferrous metals like - Nickle, Pewter, Silver, Gold etc. But they more so in line with the jewelry trade, and not metals that a scrap metal dealer is licensed to trade in).
