Two CAT 789 bare frame rebuilds are now entering the final stages, with the replacement engines installed and both trucks ready for testing.

Following engine installation, the SMS Mining Services team completed the reassembly of each unit, reconnecting the cooling, hydraulic, electrical and supporting systems before carrying out final mechanical checks.

Both trucks then progressed through a comprehensive commissioning process, including system testing, engine start-up, functional checks and quality inspections to verify all components were operating to OEM standards.

With the rebuilds complete, these CAT 789s are now ready to return to site, delivering renewed reliability, extended service life and the performance expected from a comprehensive bare frame rebuild.

Two CAT 789 haul trucks have arrived at the SMS Mining Services workshop to undergo comprehensive bare frame rebuilds, including the replacement of all major components.

Following their arrival, our team completed detailed inspections of both units, confirmed the full scope of work and developed the ex*****on plan to ensure the rebuilds are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

These rebuilds will see each truck stripped back to the bare frame before being rebuilt with new and reconditioned major components, extending asset life and returning the machines to reliable production-ready condition.

Every month, we recognise the hard work of our people by putting on a BBQ or inviting a local food truck to our Perth workshop.

It's a chance for the team to step away from the tools, enjoy a great meal and catch up with colleagues from across the business. These moments might be simple, but they're an important part of building connections, saying thank you, and recognising the effort our people put in every day.

Taking a closer look inside our Perth workshop.

Since relocating to High Wycombe, the facility has continued to support the way SMS delivers maintenance, repairs, rebuilds and fleet preparation across Western Australia. With greater space, improved workshop capability and a dedicated team behind the work, the facility plays an important role in keeping equipment moving and ready for site.

From the workshop floor through to the people behind each job, it’s a strong look at the capability, coordination and effort that drives our Perth operations forward.

Congratulations to Ryan on completing his trade upgrade training to become a Mobile Plant Technician, achieved through the Maintenance Technician Program.

Ryan started with SMS Mining Services as a qualified LV Mechanic and is now the first team member to complete the program since it was introduced, making this a proud milestone for both Ryan and the wider team.

It’s great to see our people continuing to build their skills, take on new opportunities and grow within the business. Well done, Ryan, a fantastic achievement.
