Early childhood education and care (ECEC) professionals who engage in creative and professional writing, particularly in a small group, benefit both personally and professionally.

The study, published in the March issue of the American Educational Research Journal, focused specifically on how writing might support educators of children in preschool through to the third grade as they sought to process and centre themes of social justice and progress in their teaching.

30/05/2023

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all to reflect on and learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’. It’s about encouraging all of us to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, act today for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.

So how can you be a voice for reconciliation?

26/05/2023

‘At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians’.

Reconciliation Australia, 2023.

Gowrie Training & Consultancy acknowledges, values and supports National Sorry Day, held every year on 26th May, and National Reconciliation Week, held every year from 27th May to 3rd June.

National Sorry Day is a day to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’.

National Sorry Day is also the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, so we respectfully ask all education and care professionals to take this opportunity to reflect and extend upon their learning on reconciliation, including how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded in your everyday practices with children.

We also respectfully ask the Lady Gowrie Tasmania community to please take this opportunity to reflect on what reconciliation means to you and how you can strengthen your connection to Tasmanian Aboriginal histories, stories, cultures and peoples.

Over the coming week we look forward to sharing more about Reconciliation Week 2023, including resources on how to be a voice for reconciliation in your everyday lives and work with children and families.
