Here’s the thing - I’m kind of boring 😆

Yes I love a laugh, have an inappropriate sense of humour and am a bit kooky, but all in all, compared to many babes online, I’m pretty ... uninteresting.

Some of my most beloved online biz running friends have colourful hair, flaunt their beautiful lingerie claden bods, do OOTD posts, record hilarious skits, have funny AF brand voices...

But that’s not me.

For a long time I wondered if I needed to be ‘more’ in order to stand out in the ever growing and increasingly noisy online world.

But now I know that I don’t.

It’s enough for me to be a normal everyday gal, who simply loves to write words that ooze humanness, empathy and connection.

I don’t need to be the funny one.
The pretty one.
The witty one
The loud one.

I can just be boring old normal me 😂 and that’s enough.

In fact it’s more than enough because me being me = authenticity and people can feel that s**t and people will invest in that s**t.

Don’t worry about making your brand and copy sound ‘original’. You just do you, boo. You are enough 🫶

I read a post by a copywriter recently that said you shouldn’t waste precious real estate on your website’s about page, writing a greeting like, ‘Hi beautiful, I’m [your name].’

And I thought, ‘Nah, f*ck that’ 😂

💖 I personally love those kinds of greetings, and find them so warm, personable and real (IDGAF if they’re ‘boring’ and ‘unoriginal’)

And

😞 No wonder business owners get blocked trying to write their own copy. There’s so many freakin’ ‘rules’ and so much freakin’ judgement out there. I’d be intimidated AF too!

I recently offered a giveaway to the babes on my email list and you want to know one of the key things blocking them from creating copy in their biz’s…

And in turn, sharing their magic with the world and changing lives?

👉🏽 Lack of confidence.

And IMO, the ‘rules’ that copywriters and marketing peeps splatter all over the internet aren’t helping.

Yes of course, there’s a few crucial must do’s when it comes to writing copy in your biz (like focusing on transformations over deliverables)…

But mostly, it’s free rein baby, and what people are deeply craving in this ‘noisy’ digital AI age is meaningful authentic connection through words that are written from the heart.

If you sit down and hear crickets when you write, or are paralysed by second guessing - just. keep. trying.

With practice WILL come confidence and clarity…

I've been thinking a lot about what it means to offer an exceptional 🔥 service lately.

You know, the special lil extras people provide that make working with and being supported by them feel all the more spesh and investment worthy?

👉🏽 Like the hype girling and pose suggesting you get at a photoshoot (when really, they're just being paid to take photos)...

I had a (much dreaded 😆) brand photoshoot last week.

It was my first in YEARS because having my photo taken is def in my top three things I don’t enjoy doing (closely followed by hanging out bulk pairs of knickers to dry - urgh, what a boring tedious job!)

What really tripped me up this time?

Not so much the standing in front of the camera part (although it was still 🤪)...

But the dressing myself part 😆

Without realising it, I’d created a ‘rule’ in my mind that equated a profesh biz with conservative attire (which is absolute balone but the mind thinks crazy things when it’s under stress).

But I’m not a conservative gal. In fact, I’m very far from conservative IRL compared to most humans…

So I didn’t want to dress, and therefore give an impression of being, someone I’m not.

The fact is that I feel most me when I’m wearing ripped jeans or short shorts and a midriff top (sadly, I can only dress like this for three months of the year because I live in Tasmania 😂)...

And so, after much angst and toing and froing, and panicked messaging with my fellow biz babe , I settled on outfits that felt the most me - exposed legs and belly and all.

Will it deter some babes? Sure, probably!

But I know if I’d worn something I thought I ‘should’ wear, my discomfort and feelings of inauthenticity would have shone through the photos….

Rather than letting my relaxed, grounded, welcoming and playful nature shine through (which my clients LOVE about me!)

These unwritten ‘rules’ that we unconsciously create for ourselves in our businesses fascinate me to no end…

I’m so curious to know - have you played with ChatGPT in your biz?

If so, what’s your experience been like?

When ChatGPT first came onto the scene, my partner asked me if I was worried about it impacting my job.

I said, “Nope!” 😂

My client’s businesses are so incredibly intricate, nuanced, multi-layered, emotive and ‘human’, that without even knowing anything about the technology, I found it hard to believe that my job would ever be made obsolete.

And after toying around with it, I’m even more convinced that it won’t be (in saying that, I definitely think it will impact what I get asked to write for my clients - some tasks will absolutely get outsourced to the bots).

Is it great for some purposes! YES! 👉🏽 I’m going to pop back with a post about how I’m using it to create content, and what I’m loving about it next week, so keep your eyes peeled 👈🏽

Do I think it can support people to grow their businesses, all while having more space to breathe and be? Absolutely, and yay for that.

But do I think it can meet people’s desires for depth and intimacy in the content they read online? No - unless you’re repurposing content that’s come straight from the heart of a human (for example, using ChatGPT to create a social media post from an emotive blog post you’ve crafted).

I know people will have different opinions to me on this, which I’m so open and receptive to hearing, so please, share away! 👇🏽

One last thing I’ll add to this conversation is that while I can absolutely see the gifts of ChatGPT, it REALLY saddens me to think that the art of creative thinking and expression will be dimmed and dulled as a result.

And before someone tells me that it still takes creativity to plug the right prompts into the system - it’s not the same, my friend 😆

I know the creative journey can feel hella frustrating at times (especially so if you don't identify as being a ‘good writer’), but my gawd, I personally find it to be so beautiful and enriching.
