💙 Today we’re going blue for Do It For Dolly Day 💙

In regional communities, we look out for each other - online and offline.

Today is a reminder to stand against bullying, support mental health, and help create safer spaces for our kids and families.

Online bullying can happen anywhere, any time ... but together we can help by:
💙 Checking in with our kids about their online activity
💙 Encouraging open conversations
💙 Teaching kindness and respect online
💙 Reporting bullying and supporting those affected

A simple conversation or act of kindness can make a real difference.

Wear blue, spread kindness, and do it for Dolly 💙

Critical thinking about what you see online is becoming one of the rarest skills but remains one of the most important when we are consuming content online ... do you know how to step back and think about the content you are being delivered thanks to your algorithm?

A new documentary about toxic masculine culture has been making waves and sparking conversations on- and offline in the last week.

“Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere” explores how harmful online influencers and algorithms are pushing boys and men toward extreme views – devaluing women and promoting rigid, unhealthy ideas about what makes a “real man.”

Key to the growing influence of the manosphere is the way mis- and disinformation spreads through the internet. False and misleading information, like conspiracy theories, unverified scientific claims and propaganda, travel far and wide.

Whether it spreads unintentionally (misinformation) or is deliberately created to mislead people (disinformation), it’s very hard to combat these false narratives once they’re out in the world.

This is why digital and media literacy are so important for children and young people. They need the skills to think critically about what they see online and ask questions like:

❓Where does this information come from? Are the sources referenced and reliable?
❓Is it news or opinion?
❓Are different views represented?
❓Who is saying this, and why might they be saying it?

When children and young people have the right tools, they can help stop misinformation in its tracks.

For parents and care givers, it’s crucial to have open, ongoing conversations with your children about the kinds of harmful and misleading content they might encounter online. This DigiTalk resource, which we created in partnership with Telstra, is designed to help you start the conversation: https://ow.ly/f1Y450YuyFm
