Marcroft Grains Pathology

Marcroft Grains Pathology We are a plant pathology research group that focuses on fungal diseases of canola (Brassica napus, rapeseed).

Our main focus is on blackleg disease, the most significant disease of canola worldwide, which is caused by the fungus Leptosphaeria maculans. Marcroft Grains Pathology is a private company operating from Horsham, Victoria, Australia, funded through the GRDC and specialising in canola pathology. We oversee:
- The National Canola Pathology Program
- The National Blackleg Ratings
- Identification o

The data for the 2019 fungicide resistance surveys are now complete. A total of 208 stubbles were screened with resistance detected only for the DMI fungicides. This is similar to 2018 as is the overall percentage of populations showing resistance. Individual results will be distributed by the end of the week to those that submitted samples. We will be doing the screens again in 2020 so feel free to send in your stubble samples again then.

A great day to be out with our GRDC program manager, Friday Obanor looking at the various benefits of the GRDC funded blackleg monitoring sites. These sites are used to provide recommendations to growers for spraying fungicides for upper canopy infection, which resistance genes are effective and where, and how best to minimise the effect of blackleg. We even got to see a plane putting out fungicides for upper canopy infection control!
