🧐 “My family can just do it…” Can they, though?
That was one of the big assumptions challenged by this week’s feature speaker, Cathy Vo from GLG Legal Springfield – Wills & Estates.
Cathy took us through something many of us know we should have sorted, but perhaps haven’t given enough thought to — our Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOA).
It’s not simply about putting a name on a document. It’s about consciously deciding who you trust to step in and make decisions for you if you can’t — and whether they have the judgement, availability and ability to actually do it.
One of the best takeaways was Cathy’s simple 60-second EPOA check:
👉 Do I have one?
👉 Who have I appointed?
👉 What powers have I given them?
👉 Does it still reflect what I want today?
👉 Have my circumstances or relationships changed?
And an important reminder: an EPOA doesn’t replace your Will. They do different jobs at different stages.
Cathy summed it up beautifully:
PLAN IT. DOCUMENT IT. REVIEW IT.
Because the best time to choose who will make decisions for you is while the decision is still yours to make.
Thanks Cathy for a practical, thought-provoking presentation — and for giving plenty of us some homework! 👏⚖️
