The 2026 HSBC Spanish & Latin American Film Festival returns to Perth 11th June - 1st July with a curated selection of films from Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and USA screening at Palace Cinemas Raine Square, Luna Leederville and Luna on SX.

Dramas, documentaries, rom-coms... the Festival has it all! Here are some of the titles that have our interest piqued:

MISTURA: A sweeping story of love, betrayal, and cuisine, this delicious drama starring Bárbara Mori celebrates the remarkable gastronomy and people of Peru.

NOTHING BETWEEN US: Two of Latin America’s most iconic stars, Mexico’s Gael García Bernal and Uruguay’s Natalia Oreiro, come together for the first time in this intimate and charming love story.

BREAKING WALLS: In a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Bilbao in 1989, a group of fathers must step up to chaperone their daughters at a rhythmic gymnastics tournament in Berlin in this comical and heartwarming road movie from Borja Cobeaga.

MY AMAZING GRANDMA: Contrasting overprotective parents with the wild and carefree energy of a mischievous grandmother, this entertaining family comedy about three generations of women sees hilarious disasters ensue at a rural farm.

A LOOSE END: In this engaging comedy thriller, an Argentinian policeman outruns his corrupt boss by crossing into Uruguay where the locals welcome him with open arms, as he navigates a new life, unexpected romance, adventure and danger.

This past few weeks, I've had the privilege of meeting with some of our local superstars volunteering to make our community feel more empowered and enriched.

From Amber - a disabilities accessibilty advocate, to Laurie from and (helping through their corporate volunteering initiative) helping to provide nappies and clothing for tiny tots...to a bunch of joyous rockers volunteering to raise funds for their dance club to help with affordability, fitness and mental health, their key reasons for choosing to volunteer were all so heart-warming.

Let's celebrate the ✨️ superstars ✨️ of our community, and consider volunteering yourself.
